Town Wide Free Shred Day

The Friends of the Milton Council on Aging is sponsoring the first ever town wide “Shred Day” at the Senior Center parking lot on Saturday, November 8th from 9:00 am till noon. This is a great opportunity for Milton residents to safely get rid of all those unwanted documents.

Baker takes Milton (barely), reflects tight race state wide

It was/is an incredibly close race; but Baker won it according to major news outlets (ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX) as reported on Boston.com. The Boston Globe is reporting Baker ahead but Coakley has yet to concede and Baker has agreed to wait for overnight tally (see story here.) The unofficial results here in Milton mirror how tight the race was sate wide. Baker won Milton by 109 votes. There were 11,711 votes cast in total.

This Boston Business Journal story, The cities and towns with biggest property tax bills in Massachusetts,  came through our news feed the other day but is dated 9/11/14. Regardless, the article is a good resource as Milton enters its budget season. Based on BBJ’s analysis Milton ranks 39th in the list of towns with the highest tax bill. Here is a snapshot of Milton’s numbers.

Cocoanut Grove Fire Program @ MPL

It was the Saturday after Thanksgiving and the night of the highly anticipated football game between Boston College and Holy Cross.  Boston’s premier nightclub, the Cocoanut Grove, was filled to capacity – and beyond.  Suddenly around 10:15 PM, fire appeared from in the Melody Lounge in the basement and rapidly spread through the building. 

 Teen After School Movie

Once a month, an after school movie is shown in the library for teens. Movie choices have been posted on Facebook, Tumblr, and at the library in the teen room. Cast your vote at any of these locations. 

Shooting in Lower Mills

There is a lot of police activity in the Lower Mills area. BPD report that a man was shot in vicinity of the Lower Mills Library (also a polling place – Twitter feeds state the polling place has remained open) near corner of Richmond and Dorchester Avenue. He has been taken to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries. The shooting in under investigation. You can find Boston Globe coverage here.

We’ve learned that these drivers, at least the cars they are registered to, are all from out of town.

An East Milton resident recently filmed three vehicles over the past several days illegally passing a school bus with its flashers on and stop sign displayed at the Squantum & Denmark bus stop. Whether a momentary moment of distraction or a flagrant disregard for the law and public safety we do not know; but we share the parent’s concern. The MPD have been informed.  Milton to Get Thousands of More Flights Per Year Starting this Month

Town slated for fourth RNAV, a concentrated runway for increased plane pollution and noise

 With no public warning given to residents or local officials by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Massport, runway 4L that flies over Milton, Hyde Park, Mattapan and Dorchester could become a concentrated RNAV flight path as early as next week.
