Teen Creative Writing Workshop with Kathryn Burak
On Monday, November 10 at 7 p.m., the Milton Public Library will host a creative writing workshop led by Kathryn Burak for local teens. Ms. Burak is a Milton resident, a teacher at Boston University, the poetry editor at YARN (yareview.net), and the author of the Edgar Award-nominated young adult novel, Emily’s Dress and Other Missing Things. The workshop will focus on tips and techniques for writing fiction.
Frank thoughts on last week’s town meeting

We are fans of the concept of the post mortem. That is a convening of vested parties of an initiative, project, offering to review the relative success or failure of it with an eye toward how it could have been better. If recent conversations with town meeting members are any indication, there is a bit about last week’s town meeting that could have been done better.
Political signs on public property?

The signs referred to in this post have been removed. We did not see any signs on public spaces this morning.
Town Meeting took up the issue of signs in both residential and business districts. It appears some over zealous politicos did not get the memo. Maybe we are mistaken, but are political signs allowed on public space?

With snow burst in Boston, storm breaks record

The storm that brought Massachusetts its first snow of the season, along with strong winds, power outages, and coastal flooding, was a record-breaker.
The nor’easter hit the state Saturday and churned into Sunday, depositing the most snow recorded on any Nov. 2 in 120 years, according to weather observers. (Read the full story here.)

Literary Gala shines a light on Alzheimer’s

A capacity crowd filled Lomardo’s the other day and they weren’t there for the food. They were there to celebrate and show support for our library. It was the 10th year for the Literary Gala hosted by the Milton Library Foundation, and this year they took a bit of a risk. The featured authors, Lisa Genova and Greg O’Brien, spoke on the topic of Alzheimer’s disease.
“Missing in Action” is topic at Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills
In honor of Veterans Day, Mr. Neil Canner will relate his father’s experience in World War II as guest speaker at the next Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills Brunch Speaker Series on Sunday, Nov. 9th, at the Pierce Middle School in Milton. The full title of Mr. Canner’s talk is “70 Years Ago – Missing in Action with the French Resistance.”
