Letter: Call for support against budget cuts to music in schools

Hello,

We are writing to you because of our immense concern over the possible cuts to music programming at the elementary school level, according to the most recent budget proposals under your consideration. As the co-chairs of Friends and Advocates for Music Education (FAME), we write to ask your help ensuring that music programs at the elementary level and across all grades continue at full or additional funding.

At last night’s meeting of the Planning Board, Connelly Construction attended with their team of experts and presented their current plans and studies. These included a traffic study, another assessment of the tree that has been removed, a site section plan, and massing scenarios. Citizens were invited to speak at the end of each segment. A few did, and they largely challenged the findings and content presented.

Is your home in the flood plain? You should check – here’s how

At a recent meeting of the Board of Selectmen Bill Clark the Planning Director discussed new maps available that identify residences that sit within a flood plain here in Milton. You may recall we had a terrific rainstorm not long ago that resulted in terrible flooding in areas of town. As Clark sated to the Selectmen. “It behooves you to see if you home is in the flood plain.” Why? Insurance – if you are near or in a fllood plain call your insurance agent and make sure you have appropriate coverage that is up to date.

At last Thursday’s meeting of the Board of Selectmen issues discussed included but were not limited to: a update from Tom Hurley regarding the citizens petition to form a government study committee, a discussion with Emily Innes, Chairman of the Planning Board on a Warrant article for a new master plan, and a review of housing issues with Bill Clark.

Milton 350th kicks off with Art! Reception draws a crowd

Weather Shmeather – folks turned out in numbers to attend the Milton 350th’s kick off event, an art reception at the Milton Public Library that features art work by local artisists of local scenes and a retrospective of photographs by Milton photographer Clifton Lawrence Fasch curated by the Milton Historical Society.

Milton Public Library introduces new customer feedback tools

The Milton Public Library is using a blend of new and old technologies to make it easier for library users to give feedback on their experience at the library. The traditional is two new suggestion boxes that have been added to the library and will be placed in different areas over time. The new technology is an online suggestion box, developed using a WordPress blog.

Mtg notes: Plan’g Brd 01.12.12 – Community Preservation Act endorsed, Hendries continuance, Pulte, & citizen frustration

At last week’s Planning Board session, the members discussed the Community Preservation Act. Selectman Tom Hurley is a principal proponent of having the town adopt the act. An article regarding teh CPA will be on the warrant for annual Town Meeting. Mr. Hurley appeared before the  Board to advocate for adoption and outline the benefits as he see them. He received a very favorable response. The board voted unanimously to recommend a Yes vote on the article.

Dangerousness hearing for Milton shooting suspects will continue today

Three suspects being held without bail stemming from a shooting incident last week had a dangerousness hearing yesterday that will be continued this morning. The hearing will determine if they are too risky to be released on bail. According to prosecutors all three have significant criminal records.

Brief bit – Study: No Health Risks From Wind Turbines

The following may be of interest to Milton residents. The town is seeking to construct a wind turbine off Randolph Avenue on land owned by the town.  Quarry Hills is seeking to block the construction. The case is somewhere in the court system. This comes from The BostonChannel.com

A panel of experts appointed by the state says wind turbines do not pose serious health risks for nearby residents. (Read the full story here.)
