Letter: Enough – time to resolve Hendries differences and move on

from Thomas McGrath

I had intended to speak at tonite’s (February 9) Planning Board but was unable to attend. The following are the comments I had planned to make:

My name is Tom McGrath. I live at 123 Cliff Rd Milton. I am a practicing Architect and I worked on this project for the Connellys from sometime around 2001 until early 2008. I made the presentation to the Town Meeting in 2006 for the zoning change that included this review by the Planning Board.

Milton auctions off house taken for two decades of unpaid taxes

from Wicked Local Milton

The bidding was over in a little over four minutes, the price rising $105,000 in that span. And when it was over, the house at 45 Meetinghouse Lane was on the way to having a new owner and the town close to collecting two decades of unpaid taxes and then some. (Read the full story here.)

New minister ordained at First Parish in Milton

from Boston.com – Your Town Milton

On Jan. 28 at First Parish in Milton, Erik Resly was ordained into the Unitarian Universalist ministry. The sanctuary was packed with First Parish members, as well as many others who know and love Resly, and the ceremony was equal parts moving ritual and joy-filled celebration. A summary of Hendries status

by Frank Schroth

At the beginning of their last session Emily Innes, Chair of the Planning Board, provided a summary of the status of the Hendries special permit. It provided a useful context for where the project stood prior to that session. Following are the salient points Ms. Innes made.

Mtg Notes: School Committee 01.18 & 02.01.12 – Parents voice concerns over proposed cuts

by Frank Schroth

Just as the sparrows annually return to Capistrano, so too do parents return before the School Committee at this time of year. It is the budget season and as has become common, the Warrant Committee has requested a level funded budget of all town departments. This inevitably means cuts. At recent school committee meetings parents have appeared to express their concerns over the lack of funding for the visual arts., music, and special education.

Letter: Regarding Hendries, town should wait for a better plan

from Ellen DeNooyer

February 6, 2012

To the Editor,

I am writing as a long-time Milton resident and an architect, to commend the Planning Board for their hard work and continued efforts on behalf of the Town to achieve a quality development at the Hendries site. The process has been slow largely because the developer has caused delay by not providing sufficient information, by not responding to the Board’s requests or to public comments, and by postponing his presentations.

Attendence is poor at Special Town Meeting

At last Monday’s Special Town Meeting, based on a review of that meeting’s sign in sheets, over 33% of the town meeting members failed to show up for a session that took up several articles. Their collective absence may serve as something of an ironic statement on Article 8, which received the most debate and concerned the appointment of a committee to review Milton’s form of town government.

Last Saturday was a big day!

Last Saturday was a big day here in Milton. There was the Chessapalooza event at the library that attracted 50 young chess players to competition play. The DCR opened the pedestrian bridge at Baker Chocolate and Commisioner Lambert then headed up to the Bradley Estate to address the Brookwood Farm membership. Double-barreled threat at Milton

from Boston.com

Life for Paul and Dan Curran has been all about competition.

It started the day the twins were born: Paul is a minute older than Dan and, according to Dan, his brother considers it “his one minute of freedom that he’ll never get back.’’ (Read the full story here.)

Special Town Meeting passes all articles except 1

There were 8 articles on last evening’s Special Town Meeting Warrant. Seven passed and one did not.

Article 8, the final article of the evening, was from a Citizens’ Petition submitted by Town Meeting Member Michael Joyce and others requesting the Town Moderator appoint a 7 person committee “for the purpose of studying the form and organization of the Town of Milton government.” It was defeated by a standing vote 96-63.

Gov’t review committee among articles to be taken up at 2012 Special Town Meeting

Commentary by Frank Schroth

A Special Town Meeting will be convened this evening at 7:30 at Milton High. There are eight articles on the warrant, including funding for the newly established Consolidated Facilities Department (Article 1). The most interesting, however, may be Article 8, a Citizens Petition from Town Meeting Member Michael Joyce requesting the Town Moderator appoint a committee to review our form of town government.
