Plate getting close to opening – menu posted
The Plate, a new sandwich shop featuring “handcrafted comfort food”, looks like it is close to opening. There is not a firm date; but they have launched their website and their menu is posted. Prices are reasonable and the dishes which include sandwiches, beverages, breakfasts, and sweets look awfully good.
Government Study Committee to convene first session
The Government Study Committee appointed by the Selectmen is scheduled to hold it first session this Thursday in the Carol Blute Conference Room at Town Hall. They are expected to review the charter and appoint a chairman. The committee was appointed after local resident Michael Joyce appeared before them to introduce a similar initiative.
Artspace Milton [hearts] the town
You may have noticed some Valentine’s hearts sprinkled along Central Avenue from the square up to Pierce. These expressions of love for the town are the work of Artspace Milton. They posted a gallery of images of the heart on their web site. You can find them here.
MWRA sees rates rising about 3.9% – Milton could be 8.5%
The Boston Herald reports that the MWRA has come up with estimates of rate increases for customers who use 61,000 gallons of water per year, the system average. The article states:
“According to authority data, preliminary combined assessments next fiscal year could rise 8.5 percent in Milton, 7.9 percent in Arlington, and 6 percent in Chelsea. By contrast, combined assessment may increase only 1.9 percent in Waltham, 2.1 percent in Winthrop and 2.8 percent in Lexington.” You cand find the full story here.

Preservation tax losing steam
Selectman Tom Hurley is advocating that Milton sign up for the Community Preservation Act.Today an article on Boston.com outlines the status of the initiative which appears to be losing enthusiasm. However, there are towns that continue to express interest. In addition to Milton, Canton is also looking to voters to consider adoption.
Geek out @ your library® during Teen Tech Week 2012

The Boston Globe has a long feature article in today’s paper on Bluger, his associates, and the various places they liked to hang their hats. The south shore was a popular place. One associate, John Moratano, grew up in Milton.
Mtg notes: Plan’g Brd 02.09.12 – Hendries developer does not qualify for bonus
An outstanding question that will determine the size if not the design of the Hendries development was answered last night. The question was whether the developer could qualify for a bonus to increase the size of the building. Based on an opinion from Town Counsel, the answer is no.
