Is your home in the flood plain? You should check – here’s how

At a recent meeting of the Board of Selectmen Bill Clark the Planning Director discussed new maps available that identify residences that sit within a flood plain here in Milton. You may recall we had a terrific rainstorm not long ago that resulted in terrible flooding in areas of town. As Clark sated to the Selectmen. “It behooves you to see if you home is in the flood plain.” Why? Insurance – if you are near or in a fllood plain call your insurance agent and make sure you have appropriate coverage that is up to date.

Here is how to do that.

Go here and click on the Index link. This will display a map of the town divided into sections. Determine which section your home is in. This is a little tricky but this is a PDF file and you can use a ZOOM IN control to help locate yourself. Once you have the code return to this page and click on the corresponding code for your section.

Here is an example.

This is a screen shot of my neighborhood from the index map. Note that the arrows help identify water ways etc. This is not the entire map. I reside in area 0064.

Here is a screen shot of my neighborhood. Note the blue dots. I don’t live there – whew.
