Brief bit: Pedestrian bridge over Neponset nearing completion

If you use the bike path (Neponset Greenway) you may have noticed cnstruction on old railroad bridge that crosses the Neponset just in from Central Avenue.

The DCR has contracted to have the bridge reparied and it appears to be fairly close to complete. I jogged by there early this morning and crews were there, as was a black Cadillac limo, not sure what that was about.

Calliope gets dressed up for Forbes House Event; Abby Park contributes offer

The Forbes House Museum will host an Open House Reception and Holiday Concert featuring the music of Calliope on Saturday, 10 December 2011, beginning at 4pm.

Calliope Music Director, Juila O’Toole, says, “Our members are getting in the spirit with extra rehearsals this week. We plan to perform in formal concert dress, brightening things up with red, green, silver or gold accents.”

Mtg notes: Plan’g Brd 12.01.11 – Articles for Town Meeting discusssed

The Planning Board spent most of last Thursday’s session discussing potential zoning articles for annual Town Meeting. There were several. They included: a discussion of accessory structures, a historic preservation overlay, permitting bed & breakfast establishments, home occupation bylaw, and a bylaw allowing construction of assisted living facilities.

Superintendent’s evaluation released

The School Committee has published its evaluation of Superintendent Gormley. The annual performance review consists of the Superintendent providing a “self-reflection,” the committee commenting on her performance, and publishing the final evaluation.

Dorothy Murray Gardner, former Milton Academy administrator, 90

Dorothy Murray Gardner of Milton, a former administrator at Milton Academy, died Saturday at Hancock Park in Quincy after a lengthy illness. She was 90.

As practical newlyweds, she and her husband bought a house in Dedham for the easy commute. On Diana’s daily drive to her job as a graphic designer she saw much more than the suburban sprawl that she expected. Acres of forest, fields and horses surprised and enticed her. One day on a whim, she pulled up randomly at one of the stables.
