“Race to Nowhere” to be screened at Quincy High School – free admission available

Adams Montessori School is hosting a FREE screening of the critically acclaimed documentary film “Race To Nowhere” at Quincy High School on December 11, 2011 at 6:30pm. This is a must-see film for parents, as it describes the current educational system of our country and what can be expected of your child’s experience in elementary school, middle school, and high school.  

The police log: blood near Curry College; laptop found in backyard

Here are some incidents reported to Milton police since Monday. A full list is available at police headquarters, 40 Highland St.

On Monday, Nov. 28, at 1:58 p.m., a Curry College security guard reported someone at the school had seen a pool of blood near Blue Hill Avenue and Allerton Street. Police reported a deceased fox was found in the area (Read the full story here.)

DPW Notice: Yard Waste pickup delay

Due to the abnormally high volume of yard waste this week, please be advised that yard waste collections have been slightly delayed for the Thursday and Friday collection days. The Town’s yard waste vendor, Waste Management, will be deploying several extra trucks to Milton on Saturday 12/3 and Monday 12/5 to pickup all uncollected yard waste from Thursday and Friday collection routes.

Mtg notes: Selectmen 11.29.11 – Council on Aging argues funding issue

The Cronin conference room was packed last night by residents who had come to support Mary Ann Sullivan. Ms. Sullivan, Director of the Council on Aging, appeared before the Selectmen to argue the case for allowing an amount of $12,000 that had previously been accounted for outside of their budget to be factored into level funding limit.

Officers commended for “Excellence in Police Service”

Department Commendations: Today the Chief has issued public commendations to ten Police Officers and one Police Cadet for “Excellence in Police Service.” These members engaged in police action that resulted in multiple arrests of wanted suspects from crimes ranging to nightime burglary to narcotics violations.

Obit: Peter Chrisom Sr., 81, of Milton, retired North Quincy High principal

Peter J. Chrisom Sr. of Milton, a Korean War veteran and retired North Quincy High School principal, died Thursday at Milton Hospital. He was 81.

Born and raised in Quincy, Mr. Chrisom was a longtime resident of Milton.

He graduated from North Quincy High School in 1948, and went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston College. (Read the full story here.)

Milton sisters launch drive to “make a difference”

Two sisters have undertaken a drive to Make a Difference. Alisa and Vanessa Lorden of Milton have created a blog to document their efforts and recruit support from the community in their endeavor. In their initial post they state:

We are collecting redeemable cans to support different things that we believe in. Things that are important to us like helping the Milton Animal Shelter,  Disabled Veterans and the Milton Food Pantry etc…

Selectman Hurley on Parking & East Milton Square

At the most recent meeting of the Board of Selectmen a motion was made and passed to test a plan for re-routing traffic through East Milton Square. The plan was part of a recommendation by Howard Stein Hudson to replace the park over the expressway with parking. Selectman Hurley made the motion; but as he made clear in recent email and conversation, that motion was not an endorsement of putting in a parking lot. A parking lot “would be a mistake.” However, improved traffic flow could be a first step in an effort to enhance the commercial appeal of the square and inject some vitality into it. “East Milton Square needs help.”

Milton pair robbed cabbie at gunpoint
