Update on status of Central Ave reconstruction and paving

updated 05.31.14 @ 12:00pm – Signage at the corner of Central Ave & Reedsdale states that work will begin “approx” on June 9th.

A reader recently wrote in to inquire about the status of the repaving of Central Avenue, a road recently cited in a Milton Times poll as the worst in town.

According to a recent communication with Town Hall the reconstruction contract of Central Avenue was awarded to T.L.Edwards. DPW Director Joe Lynch reports that their pre-construction work has already begun.

Red Sox call up Milton’s Alex Hassan – Woot!

The Red Sox will recall outfielder/first baseman Alex Hassanprior to Friday night’s game and place Ryan Lavarnway on the 15-day disabled list, reports Danny Ventura of the Boston Herald and confirmed by multiple sources. This will mark Hassan’s first stint at the major league level, and represents a homecoming – Hassan grew up in Milton, Mass. and played at Boston College High School. (Read the full story here.)

Celebrate summer at Fuller Village with a live Concert on the Green sponsored by generous donations from The Bank of Canton and Partners Healthcare at Home.   The season opens up with Memphis Rockabilly Band, a four piece band that plays songs that range from rockabilly, surf instrumentals, rock & roll, hillbilly to rhythm and blues.

After St. Mary of the Hill’s routine fire drill, the Pre-Schoolers had the chance to explore a real fire truck! The Milton Firefighters let the kids take pictures with the truck, try on helmets, and even ring the fire bell! After the truck left with it’s sirens ringing, 3 year old Kori Ralph said “When I’m big I want to drive that truck!” Looks like St. Mary of the Hills is raising a few brave future heroes!

On Friday, May 23rd, St. Mary of the Hills School held it’s annual end of the year Field Day. The event was organized by physical education teacher, Mr. Ara Asadoorian, or as the kids like to call him, Mr. A! Mr. A worked together with parents and faculty to host over a dozen special events for every grade (Pre-School through 8th Grade) to participate in.

Cosetta and Moore Receive Scholarships from Milton Girls Softball League

Milton Girls Softball (MGS) is pleased to announce Milton seniors Juliann Cosetta and Julia Moore are this year’s scholarship recipients.  MGS started a scholarship program in 2013 to be awarded annually to two seniors that have participated in the MGS for a minimum of four years and are planning to continue their education.  This scholarship is a one-time award to assist with finances of college, vocational school or any enlisted branch of the US Armed Forces. 

Conclusions and recommendations of DPH/BEH study of Logan Airport health impacts

There has been concern voiced here in Milton with regard to the health impact of airplane flights over the town. A group of residents formed an organization, Milton Committee Against Aviation Impacts, has been raising awareness and lobbying town hall to take action on the issue. Of  interest will be a report just issued by the Massachusetts Department of Health and Bureau of Environtmental Health that assesses these impacts on towns with a 5 mile radius of the airport. Milton is included in the study.
