On Friday, May 23rd, St. Mary of the Hills School held it’s annual end of the year Field Day. The event was organized by physical education teacher, Mr. Ara Asadoorian, or as the kids like to call him, Mr. A! Mr. A worked together with parents and faculty to host over a dozen special events for every grade (Pre-School through 8th Grade) to participate in.

 

The events ranged from potato sack races, tug of war, obstacle courses, water sponge races, chicken tosses, to one giant parachute! The highlights of the day included a cookout catered by Fasano’s Catering, a school wide basketball tournament and a dunk tank. The dunk tank drew the most attention as students lined up to sink some of their favorite teachers into a 4 foot tank of water.

 

Volunteers for the dunk tank included Miss Nancia Kavaltzis (3rd grade teacher), Miss Kathryn Bois (7th grade teacher), Mr. DarrylGrant (father of Darryl Grant, 8th grade) and Alim Abrahim (Saint Mary of the Hills Alumn.) Students stayed busy all day, playing games, and entertaining each other. Faculty members including principal Miss Lisa Fasano, and custodian Mr. John Holleran were even seen helping out the kids at Field Day.

With the possibility and forecast for rain, Mrs. Paris (School Secretary), took matters into her own hands and hung Rosary beads outside the school’s front door to pray for no rain. Sure enough, the rain held off all day!  Field Day was an enjoyable event for every member of the Saint Mary of the Hills community, and the school would like to thank Mr. A and all of the parent volunteers that helped make the day possible.
