Letter: Larson questions TSA judgement

Every time I read about the TSA’s decision to now allow passengers to board aircraft with pocket knives I get crazy. Who are these TSA people, that we pay, that come up with such idiotic ideas? I have to put my tooth paste in my checked in luggage and take off my shoes, but I can carry a knife on board.

Milton man tries to break into Somerville home with screwrdriver

Police arrested a 30-year-old Milton man for reportedly trying to break into a Morrison Avenue residence using a screwdriver. George Panagopoulos, of 54 Central Ave., was charged with breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony and possession of a burglarious instrument. (Read the full story here.)

Mtg Notes: School Committee 03.05.13 – Tucker shines on; some wait for French; security beefed up

At the last session of the school committee they heard a presentation from the Tucker Site Council, reviewed the enrollment figures for fall 2013, voted on fees for improved security measures,  and received an update from Chairman Pavlicek on the possible impact of sequestration.

Tucker is unique among Milton’s elementary schools. It population is “richly diverse.” Over 54% are students of color (Milton as a district has ~30% students of color). Thirty-two per cent are low income and over 11% have a language other than English as their first language. In the most recent MCAS tests 75% scored proficient or above in ELA and 70% scored proficient or above in Math.

Brief bit: Neponset Greenway included in transportation bill

The Dorchester Reporter has an article on Governor Patrick’s tax hikes and notes that funding for completion of the Neponset Greenway is included. The article pegs the cost at $1.68 million and would fund completion of missing sections. “The three missing sections would add 4.2 miles to the 4.7 miles that already exist.

O’Malley as pope prospect a hot topic at South Shore parishes

Pope O’Malley? A week ago, the prospect Cardinal Sean O’Malley becoming the first American pope seemed like wishful thinking. But it was the talk of the parishes, before this weekend’s Masses and afterward during coffee time.
