The Forbes House Museum will sponsor a lecture by Rhode Island Chief Justice (retired), Frank J. Williams on Sunday, 19 October at 2pm in the Keys Room at the Milton Public Library, 476 Canton Avenue, Milton. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The Board of Selectmen heard from Mary Ann Sullivan, Director of the Council on Aging (COA), who was there to request approval of another van driver. She said the COA had to turn away multiple requests from seniors for van service due to lack of resources. “It’s time for the town to step up to the plate,” she said.
Milton High School Students Receive National Merit Commendation
Six Milton High School students were recently notified by the National Merit Scholarship Program that they have qualified as Commended Students for 2015.
Susan Degnan ’79 to be installed as Head of School at Fontbonne
Fontbonne Academy is hosting an Installation Mass and Ceremony for the new Head of School, Susan M. Degnan ’79, on Wednesday, October 8. The Ceremony will take place in the school’s auditorium at 8:30 a.m. The Board of Trustees, Administration, and Faculty of Fontbonne Academy would like to welcome members of the local community, Fontbonne Academy alumnae, and friends of Fontbonne to attend this special event.

At last night’s Selectmen’s meeting Denis Keohane, voted opposite his colleagues on two matters. The discussions on these matters and the split votes that resulted were in some ways more interesting than the matters themselves.

Family of Evan Jones to Host Fundraiser on October 11, 2014 To Support Milton High School’s Weight Room in His Name
When Evan Jones of Milton passed away at the age of 19 from Sudden Unexpected Death due to Epilepsy (SUDEP), the entire town mourned the untimely loss of this generous and kind athlete. Now, his family and friends continue to turn their grief into something positive by raising money to improve the weight room at MHS, something very important to Evan.

Sean “The Champ” McCarthy’s to fight at the Royale
Local amateur boxer Sean McCarthy has a bout scheduled for October 18th at the Royale in Boston. Mr McCarthy has yet to lose a fight. We profiled him last December. He is a unique and talented man who has picked an interesting sport given he was born with cerebral palsy. You can find a piece “The Determination of Sean McCarthy” here. Where McCarthy is concerned, determination pretty much sums it up. Go Champ!

Draft of Master Plan findings and recommendations presented; public input ongoing

Approximately 50 people attended the Master Plan forum held at Milton High School on 9/29 Daphne Politis of Community Circle, the principal consultant retained by the town to develop a Master Plan, presented the findings, recommendations and strategies contained in a draft of the plan. The plan has been over a year in development. (The presentation is provided below.)
