Seven exceptional teachers in the Milton public schools had a very nice surprise on Friday, April 30. Trustees of the Milton Foundation for Education visited these teachers in their classrooms and informed them that they had been selected to receive a 2010 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. Superintendent Mary Gormley, school administrators, and scores of excited students crowded the classrooms to clap and cheer and enjoy the early morning cake and ice cream party that the MFE provided each of the winning teachers.

As a cheerleader, I often receive comments from people who what I do is not considered a sport. During winter sports sign-ups, I receive joke after joke about how it should be considered a club. What I’ve found, though, is that nobody wants to know my opinion: what I think about what I do.

The Milton Young Musician’s Festival celebrated its 24th year this past Saturday. The Festival, founded and directed by resident Emma Jean Moulton, has been providing Milton musicians of all ages an opportunity to perform in an adjudicated competition and take master classes from professional musicians.
