The School Adminstration is scheduling budget presentations at schools across the district. Superintendent Gormley says in her announcement, “The 2014-2015 budget allows us to continue to work on our Advancement Initiatives. Those initiatives are: Enhancing Early Literacy, Closing the Proficiency Gaps and Advancing Science and STEM.”
Tim Bulman among 3 to gain BC High Hall of Fame

Charles Barnes of Raynham, Matt Greene of Plymouth and Tim Bulman of Milton are among the newest members of the Boston College High School’s Hall of Fame.
Bulman, a 2001 graduate, was a defensive lineman for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans from 2005 through 2011. (Read the full story here.)

We flagged three important issues that were to be taken up this week at various board meetings: the Parks discussion of the relocation of the Swift Hat Shop, the status a new teacher contract, and approval of signage for a proposed Sleepy’s on Granite Ave. There is a teacher contract.

Mtg notes: School Committee 01.08.14 – SC votes 5-1 to accept union contract; possible cuts identified pending funding level

Last Tuesday the Milton Educators Association membership ratified a three year contract and last night the School Committee voted to approve that contract. The vote was 5-1 with Mary Kelly being the dissenting vote. Town Administrator Annmarie Fagan was present at the table and voted. Member Kristen Bagley-Jones was absent.
Mattapan Square trail house expected to be completed by spring

The conversion of a former mattress store in Mattapan Square into a Department of Conservation and Recreation trail house is progressing and should be completed by the spring.
