Milton’s historic Swift Hat Shop could be on the move

Mike Roberts of Milton has been debating what to do with the historic Swift Hat Shop since he purchased it in 1996.

At first, he wanted to transform the small, historic red building into an office for his software development business, but discovered it would be too costly. Plans materialized to demolish the building, yet historical advocates were up in arms. (Read the full story here.)

Randolph woman first to answer Blue Hills call!

Milton, Canton reach deal on separating water systems

An article in today’s Globe reports on the resolution between Canton and Milton regarding water usage. Canton had been receiving Milton water for a segment of its residents. Milton billed them for that water. They have reengineered their systems so as to no longer require it. However, some Milton residents are receiving water through Canton pipes. The likely result will be a fairly expensive engineering task, possibly as much as $6 million. The Milton DPW is currently assessing the task.

The first time I went to Montilio’s bakery I had pizza. It’s a great place. It is geographically in Quincy but it “feels” like belongs in East Milton.

At Montilio’s Bakery, if you can’t find it on the menu, just ask. The local institution sells everything from lasagna and stuffed shells to custom-made cakes the size of a football player, and keeps about 100 employees busy at its Braintree, Brockton and Quincy locations. Milton Public Library to host Women’s Equality Poster Exhibit

Labor advocate and collector Stephen Lewis will display international posters about women’s struggle for equality during the month of February 2014 in the Wotiz Gallery of the Milton Public Library. This project is supported in part by grants from Laborers Local 22, Carpenters District Council, and Asbestos Workers Local 6.

Free Movie: The Friends of Eddie Coyle @ MPL

As part of the Mobster Film Series, a 1973 movie, The Friends of Eddie Coyle starring Robert Mitchum will be shown on Thursday, February 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Keys Community (lower level) of the Milton Public Library, 476 Canton Avenue in Milton.  The free event, sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Library, is open to the public.
