Milton Cemetery’s “Garden Portal” sculpture display

The Milton Cemetery has a wonderful outdoor display of sculpture. A Globe story alerted us to it and gives some background to the works and the artists who created them. Swing by and have a look. It’s a treat.

Communities make changes to improve parking

Parking in East Milton is a never ending topic of discussion among merchants and town officials. A project is in development to convert a portion of the park over the expressway into parking. In addition, metered parking has been discussed. An article in today’s Globe discusses how south shore towns are tackling their parking issues. You can find the article here.

Patrick’s vetoes impact South Shore communities

An article in  Wicked Local Quincy lists vetoes in the state budget by Governor Patrick that affect South Shore communities. Included in the list are:

  • $300,000 shall be expended to reimburse the town of Milton for funds expended pursuant to chapter 349 of the acts of 2010.

These enterprising girls, Ella Craghead-Goldman, Ada Mitchell, and Maxine Loranger-Milt, took advantage of the hot weather to set up a lemonade stand lat Thursday. And that wasn’t all. If you had the good fortune to run into them you could also get chocolate chip cookies and a rainbow loom bracelet. Sales were over $45 and they are donating it all to the Milton Food Pantry! Nice job girls!

Environmental bond bill has big benefits for Milton

The Senate passed a four-year, $1.7 billion Environmental Bond Bill that will benefit the state and the town of Milton.

The bill contains several initiatives by Senator Brian A. Joyce. These include:

  • $7.5 million for the creation of a new Neponset River park and canoe launch near Truman Parkway in Milton
  • $10 million for design, signalization, safety improvements, sidewalks and aesthetic improvements on Brush Hill Road and Truman Parkway

Coming soon: A 10-day red light on Morton Street

Here is a traffic advisory for those who travel Morton Street. The Dorchester Reporter reports that “For ten days next month – from Aug. 8 to Aug. 17 – the well-traveled section of Morton Street above the railroad tracks and near the Norfolk Street intersection will be closed to traffic as the state lays in place a new Morton Street bridge.” You can find the full article here.
