Friday, July 25th, is the last day for the backpack/school supplies drive at the Milton Public Library for the 500 children served by the Interfaith Social Services (ISS) food pantry in Quincy each month. ISS is one of the largest food pantries in Greater Boston, serving 20,000 South Shore families a year.

Free Film: Sherlock Holmes at the MPL
Robert Downey, Jr. breathes life into the great detective. Sherlock Holmes (2009) will play in the Milton Reads series on Tuesday, July 29. The free film will air at 6:30 p.m. in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the Milton Library, 476 Canton Avenue in Milton. This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Library and is part of the Milton Reads special events.
A perspective on standardized testing
Testing is a big issue in education. It measures achievement, points to where progress needs to be made, and provides some accountability. The BBC recently reported on a letter sent by a teacher, Rachel Tomlinson of the Barrowford primary school in Lancashire, to her students regarding their standardized test scores. MPD apprehend wanted fugitive

This morning Sgt. Det. Dan Brown observed a brown sedan exit Rte. 93 at Granite Ave. He noticed that the car was moving at an excessive rate and had major damage to the rear end. He noted it was emitting sparks from the undercarriage. He attempted to stop this vehicle which immediately fled off Squantum St. into the Christopher Drive/California Ave neighborhood. The operator attempting to evade police, lost control on Lochland St and came to rest on the front lawn of a home at the corner of California Ave.
Funds for Blue Hills Deer Culling Included in Environmental Bond Bill

The Environmental Bond Bill recently passed by the Massachusetts Senate contains a provision authored by Senator Brian A. Joyce to address the overcrowding of deer in the Blue Hills. The legislation directs the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to develop and implement a plan to control deer populations in areas where they exceed 50 per square mile.
