Update: Oak tree is taken down

In a move that surprised town officials and neighbors Connelly Construction brought in a company to take down the black oak on the Hendries building site. Connelly construction cited the trees condition as a potential public safety hazard and their liability in explaining why they were removing the tree.
Mtg Notes: School Committee 03.02.11 – Glover Improvement Plan; Art docent success; solar panel concerns
On March 2nd the School Committee heard a presentation from the Glover Site Council. Principal Stephanie Nephew was joined by site council members Emilty McElhiney and James Supplesa. This was the most recent in a series of reports given to the school committee on the status of educational achievement and plans for the future by the schools respective site councils.
Updated: Candidates file papers; election is April 26th
Candidates for town office had to submit their nomination papers to the Town Clerk’s office Tuesday 3/8 by 5:00pm. Candidates for town wide office require 50 qualified signatures (ie residents registered to vote in Milton) and Town Meeting Members require 10 (these need to be from the precinct in which they reside). The town wide offices that are being contested are for Board of Selectmen, Library Board of Trustees, Cemetary Trustees, and Board of Assessors.
“The time has come” – Dr. Drottar to retire from Milton High
After 34 years “the time has come,” said John Drottar.
John Drottar who taught math at the Cunningham Junior High and at Milton High and who for the last 9 years has been the principal of Milton High School has announced his retirement. He will be missed.
Special report on Wind Turbines from Climatide
NPR site Climatide is running a series this week titled The Falmouth Experience: The Trouble with One Town’s Turbine about that town’s experience with construction of a wind turbine.
Milton has a wind turbine initiative that is currently being challenged by several parties. Quarry Hills Associates is suing the town arguing that the turbine will adversely affect their business (Granite Links Golf Course) and has detrimental environmental impacts (e.g. noise, flicker). Rep. Mariano of Quincy has also filed legislation to prevent construction on similar grounds.

The Real Estate Broker Kelly & Rege tweeted early this morning that “on March 13th The Residences at Brook Hill 36 Central Ave., Milton ma will hold its first open house to the public 1-3pm (18 lux units). ” For neighbors in the Central Ave / Eliot St. area this building has been a topic of keen interest. It has taken about as long to build as the George Washington Bridge. Now folks can take a look.
The Temple Celebrates
Last Sunday evening Temple Shalom hosted a celebration perhaps tinged with a few tears. It was likely the last event to be held in the building that has been the Temple’s home for the last 65 years.
