You too could hold elected office

There are any number of ways to become involved in your (our) community. One is elected office. Nomination papers are now available at town hall for Selectmen, Planning Board, Library Trustee and much more. What? You don’t feel qualified? Lack the knowledge?  Don’t sell yourself short. The town needs committed individuals to take it forward. Check in with the town clerk if you have interest. Voters deserve a choice. Why shouldn’t one be you?

Milton’s closest marijuana dispensary

Milton residents with medical marijuana prescriptions will not need to go to far. Town Meeting will be taking up an article on local dispensaries this spring. In the meantime, Quincy will have one of the first licensed dispensaries, Ermont, which will be at  216 Ricciuti Drive, Quincy, MA. You can find the complete list of approved dispensaries here. Fontbonne Academy in Milton Sued for Anti-Gay Hiring Practices

Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) today filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) against Fontbonne Academy, a religiously affiliated college preparatory school in Milton, MA, after the school terminated a man they had just hired as Food Services Director upon learning he was gay and married to another man. The Master Plan Committee plans phase 2

The Master Plan Committee met last night at the Council on Aging to discuss the strategy, steps, timeline,  and communication around the second phase of Milton’s Master Plan. Municipalities in the Commonwealth are required by law to have a master plan that guides the town’s development. Areas of focus include housing, traffic, historic preservation, economic development, open space, and public services.

A little bit more about Kamel Hamade

We recently published an obituary about Kamel Hamade who was recently killed at a terrorist bombing at his restaurant in Kabul. And so the war comes home to Milton where his brother, a doctor, lives. Along with many in Milton we are sorry for the family’s loss. You learn more about and get a fuller picture of Mr. Hamade from an NPR story here.
