Mtg notes BoS 03.27.14 – ~$2 million in capital improvements approved; recommend denial of Randolph Ave 40B

The board reviewed the recommendations of the Capital Improvement Committee for bonding $1,992,049 to fund largely DPW and school requests. The schools requested ~$215K to purchase smartboards and Chromebooks. The DPW amounts will be used to fund, among other things, purchase of 3 trucks (~$140K) and replace sewer and water meters ($1.2 million).

Boston starts extended weekend subway, bus service

This is the weekend Boston is beginning its new extended bus and subway service.

Beginning Friday night, the MBTA says its subway and 15 major bus routes will run until around 3 a.m. The service will operate at the same stations and stops it does on weekdays, and fares will be the same. (Read the full story here.)

Milton Performing Arts celebrates 2nd Annual Elementary Musicians Festival

Milton Performing Arts presented the second annual Milton Elementary Musicians Festival on March 15, 2014. The Milton Young Musicians Festival, now in its 28th year, invites students from sixth grade and up to participate in an adjudicated performance environment. Lynn Salmonsen, Director of the Young Musicians Festival, perceived a need for an event which would provide a supportive opportunity for younger music students to work one-on-one with an experienced coach and then perform a selection for an audience in a more formal environment.
