Pierce students compete in (and place!) in creative thinking competition

Screen Shot 2014-03-27 at 7.25.53 AMFour 6th graders from Pierce Middle School competed in Destination Imagination’s regional tournament in Beverly, MA on Saturday. They competed against 6th, 7th and 8th graders in a structure/engineering challenge. Since October, teams have been working on their solution which had strict criteria, for example, the structure could only be made using fishing line, glue and natural wood. In addition it had to weigh less than 80 grams. The goal was to use creative thinking with no parent interference to design and build a structure to withstand the most weight.

Milton’s team placed 3rd in the tournament and received a special Innovation Award for their design and teamwork. Congratulations to Kyle Hipp, Wallace Heller, Alex Malmstrom and Ryan Mazzotta.
