Molar-breakers, tooth-dullers, and sheet iron — not exactly the names one might choose to describe a signature food.

But as one of the country’s last remaining producers of the dense, flour-and-water crackers known as hardtack (and other less-than-flattering terms that refer to their tooth-breaking hardness), the new owners of the G.H. Study: Dorchester beaches trail region in water quality

FYI – it would be nice to jump in the water after a jog or bike ride but .  .  .may not quite be there yet

Beaches in South Boston and East Boston had significantly less bacteria in 2013 than years past, while improper sewage hookups and other pollutants continue to mar the waters at Lynn, Swampscott, Dorchester and Quincy swimming spots, according to Save the Harbor Save the Bay’s third annual report card. News break: July 4th concert @ Hatch shell moved to July 3rd

Tropical Storm Arthur has forced a change in plans for this year’s July 4th celebration at the Hatch Shell. The concert will be held tomorrow July 3rd. Typically that is a rehearsal but given concerns of officials with the storm and the fact that the musicians will be on hand already it is full speed ahead. You can find Boston Globe coverage here. At yeterday’s meeting of the Board of Selectmen Town Clerk Susan Galvin swore in 4 new officers to the Milton Police Department. These 4 matriculated out of a program run by the Boston Police Department. It isn’t easy – about a hundred cadets went in and under 70 came out. Congratulations to Patrick Nee, Ryan O’Rourke, John Larson, and Travis Weekes.

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton Opens Clinical Decision Unit

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton (BID-Milton) recently opened a new Clinical Decision Unit for the medical management of patients whose treatment and diagnosis are anticipated to take approximately 24 hours and are thus considered outpatient in nature. The CDU was opened in a newly refurbished 15-bed area, part of the hospital’s 2North Nursing Unit.

Following is a letter from Senator Joyce regarding the $36.5 billion budget passed by lawmakers yesterday. The budget now goes to the Governor for review. He can veto the budget, veto or adjust line items of the budget, make proposed amendments or changes to the budget and send it back to the legislature for approval, or sign it into law.

Congratulations to the 6 Milton residents who were selected this past week end to represent Massachusetts as members of the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organizations (MYRO) High School All Star team in the New England Challenge Cup.

Quincy Police seek assistance in identifying woman

Quincy Police are hoping to get some help in identifying the body of a woman that was found by a passerby in the water on Sunday morning.

CBS Boston reported that “an adult black woman” was found in the water near Sea Street. She was wearing a black bathing suit with a terry cloth cover over it, and investigators said there were no signs of foul play.
