Friday, July 25th, is the last day for the backpack/school supplies drive at the Milton Public Library for the 500 children served by the Interfaith Social Services (ISS) food pantry in Quincy each month. ISS is one of the largest food pantries in Greater Boston, serving 20,000 South Shore families a year.
Backpacks in good or new condition gratefully accepted, along with paper, notebooks, folders with pockets, pencils, pens, erasers, glue sticks, markers, safety scissors, crayons, index cards, spare calculators, or other school supplies. Drop-off bins are accessible in the Milton Public Library on Canton Avenue during the library’s open hours through July 25th. Pictured are some of the supplies already donated by caring residents.
The filled backpacks will be distributed to South Shore children as they come to the ISS food pantry beginning August 1st so they can be prepared for the first day of school in September.
Sean Bentley, a rising freshman at Milton High, is running the Milton collection as part of his community service project. For more information or to make a donation to buy supplies, please contact sirbentley2@gmail. com or visit www.interfaithsocialservices.org .
