School Committee votes approval of $41 million budget

On December 11th the School Committee voted unanimously to approve a $41,094,500 budget for FY16. The budget was reviewed and discussed at length at a previous session (see related story here.). The budget is large and complicated but essentially there are 3 key factors.

On December 11th, the 5th and 6th grade at St. Mary of the Hills had the exciting opportunity to attend a field trip to Gillette Stadium! Students viewed a special movie on the history of the New England Patriots and explored the Patriots Hall of Fame.

Riding an MBTA trolley into the train yard at Mattapan is a bit like it was riding the bumper cars at Paragon Park in days gone by – just when you are starting to have fun, it’s over. The MBTA trolley has a pole, called a panagraph, and runs on electricity, just like the old bumper car, but it travels a lot farther. For 2.6 miles, and the ten minutes it takes to go from Ashmont to Mattapan, passengers can sit back and enjoy a panoramic view of environments and shifting landscapes that is quite exciting. Riverside Theatre Works Holds Auditions for Two Upcoming Musicals

Riverside Theatre Works will hold auditions for two major productions in January. Auditions for Freckleface Strawberry The Musical will take place on Sunday, January 4 from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Monday, January from 7 to 9 p.m. Auditions for Les Miserables will be held on Sunday, January 11 from 12:30 – 5 p.m. and 6:30 – 10 p.m., and on Monday, January 12 from 7 – 10 p.m.

Mtg notes: Selectmen 12.11.14 – Annual audit reviewed; Town Mtg procedures discussed; minor budget brouhaha

The Board of Selectmen received an audit review of FY14 town financial statements from Richard Sullivan of Powers & Sullivan. The town accountant Amy Dexter was also present. Mr. Sullivan said that in the statements, “You [the town] present yourself well” and that the opinion is “clean. It doesn’t get any better.” With regard to the management letter, of 11 comments from previous year, 4 had been resolved.

3 Milton residents tapped for Governor Baker’s advisory team

Governor elect Charlie Baker is putting together a series of transition teams that will provide guidance and advice on schools, jobs/economy, community, health, and better government. The Globe have a comprehensive list of people that are being appointed. Overall it is a large group (170 individuals) that includes three residents of Milton.

Milton, Weymouth hospitals preparing to take on QMC patients

Leaders from Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton and South Shore Hospital in Weymouth are drawing up plans to deal with a possible influx of patients once the doors shut at Quincy Medical Center, a 124-year-old hospital with more than 30,000 emergency-room visits annually.
