The Milton Board of Health is postponing the Seasonal Flu Clinics scheduled for October 22nd at Cunningham Park and October 27th at the Council On Aging due to delays associated with the distribution of the vaccine from the manufacturers.

  • Well done to Philippe Javier, John “Jack” Callow and Mitterrand Meatier – All three of these 8th grade students are candidates for President of the Student Council.   • Voting takes place today! – Today during the grade 8 history classes, students will vote for the Student Council President, Vice president and Secretary for the 8th grade. All votes will be tallied during period F and the votes from period G will be added to total. All “Elected Officials” will be announced at the end of the day on Friday. Good luck to all candidates and thank you for your ongoing support.
  • Picture Retakes – The date for the Picture retakes is scheduled for Thursday, November 5th at 8:00AM.

____There will be a special Town Meeting held at the Milton High School Auditorium on Monday, October 19th @ 7:30pm.

There are three articles in the warrant:

  • a vote to cut the town budget by $331,000 to make up for state short falls. The police budget would lose $176,000 and the schools $111,000.
  • a vote to authorize borrowing funds to support the rehabilitation of a Milton fire fighters medical care
  • a vote to impose a meals tax on local restaurants

Brookwood Community Farm profiled in Boston.com

Our local CSA, Brookwood Community Farm, was written up in today’s Gardening section of Boston.com.

It is a great asset to our community and today, being, Thursday, you can visit them and purchase local vegetables at their booth at the Milton Farmer’s Market. (Find more information on the Milton Farmer’s Market here.)

I recently visited Brookwood Community Farm in Milton and was impressed that this is what we need more of. It was created in 2006 to build community through the endeavor of growing food. Co-founders Judy Lieberman and Mark Smith saw the potential of Brookwood Farm – a 75-acre dormant farm in the Blue Hills Reservation managed by the Dept. of Conservation and Recreation – to play a significant role in creating a more local and sustainable food system. MHS Bulletin for 10.15.09

  • Mini Fair: Today, Milton High will host the final Mini Fair during B period from 8:40 to 9:32. Juniors and Seniors will need permission slips signed by their B period teachers. Forty-two colleges will be represented. A listing is posted outside Guidance and the Main Office. Permission slips are available in Guidance.
  • National Honor Society:  Attention all National Honor Society Members! There will be a meeting after school today in the cafeteria to hold speeches and elections for officers.
  • Photography Club: There will be a meeting today in room 211. Bring in your twenty best pictures from the Houghton’s Pond photo shoot. Bring in new photo shoot locations ideas. New Members always welcome.
  • Debate Team: There will be a Debate Team meeting today in room 212. We will be discussing our vision for competing this winter. There are events to match all interests.

A tail with a happy ending

Sometimes it is the little things that make such a difference. Wicked Local Bridgewater has an article today about how Milton’s animal control officer and the Milton Animal Shelter rescued a Great Dane found wandering in the Blue Hills and found his owners. The dog was returned almost a month after it had gone missing and was 30 miles from home. You can read the full story here.

Milton officer assault hearing is closed to public

An assistant clerk magistrate closed a hearing on a criminal complaint Quincy police are seeking against a high-ranking Milton police officer who is accused of assaulting a woman.

The hearing that was scheduled for Brockton District Court on Tuesday was later postponed, however, because there was no prosecutor. (Read the full story here.)
