Video: Go to “Anything Goes” !! The cast will tell you why

This Friday and Saturday Milton High School will be performing the Cole Porter classic, Anything Goes, and it will be fantastic. It features songs, jokes, and production numbers with tap dancing that includes the entire cast! That last item being a first for MHS. I had the opportunity to sit through a dress rehearsal and have some conversations with cast members. The energy, hard work, and joyful enthusiasm that have gone into this all come shining through. Here they are in their own words.

Milton resident Roderick Ireland nominated for chief justice job

This morning Governor Deval Patrick announced the nomination of Senior Associate Justice Roderick L. Ireland, a Milton resident, to serve as Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Justice Ireland, a highly regarded Associate Justice of the SJC and former Appeals Court and Juvenile Court judge, will, if confirmed,  the first African American and person of color to serve as Chief Justice of the SJC.

Quick analysis: how Milton voted? Democrat

Nationwide Democrats had a tough time of it but here in Milton the center held. Milton voted the democratic ticket and voted “No” on all three ballot questions (Question 1 did pass at the state level).

Milton saw a town wide voter turnout of 72% with Precinct 9 having the highest turnout (77%) and Precinct 1 the lowest (67%).

Governor Patrick & State Senator Joyce are coming back; Q 2 & 3 defeated

Milton Democrats are breathing a sigh of relief this morning. Local incumbents Duval Patrick and State Senator Brian Joyce both retained their offices.

Of the ballot questions, only Question 1 passed. Questions 2 and 3 which would have repealed the 40B affordable housing law and rolled back state taxes to 3% were beaten back by substantial margins repeal the alcohol tax is passing where Q2 & 3 appear to be going down in defeat by substantial margins.You can find complete election results on ballot questions here.

Milton Sen. Brian A Joyce re-elected in a landslide

Democrat Brian A Joyce of Milton retained his State Senate seat on Tuesday by beating Republican Robert Burr of Canton in a landslide.

Joyce celebrated his victory at the Suffolk Grill in Canton saying “I am overjoyed to have won in what was the most challenging year for incumbents in decades.” (Read the full story here.)

Milton beats Dedham in MIAA Div 2 Play

Scoring has been the bane of the Dedham High boys soccer team all season long. Despite netting just eight goals through the first 16 games, the Marauders still entertained hopes of being able to qualify for the MIAA Division 2 South tournament via the Sullivan Rule. (Read the full story here.)
