Ed Duffy abruptly resigns from Planning Board

At the beginning of this evening’s Planning Board meeting Member Ed Duffy asked for and was granted permission to speak by the Chair. He brought up the issue of the East Milton theater and said that in his 12 years on the board that 6 or 7 traffic studies had been done regarding various developments, all paid for by the applicant. He continued, “No matter what has been stated otherwise.”

TOWN WIDE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN EFFECT – ASSISTANCE OF NAT’L GUARD REQUESTED

Late this afternoon, the Board of Selectmen met in emergency session and voted unanimously on a recommendation of the DPW Director Joe Lynch to declare a town wide state of emergency. Mr Lynch along with Fire Chief Grant, Police Chief Wells, Consolidated Facilities Director Ritchie and Planning Director Bill Clark updated the Selectmen on the status of the town’s current situation regarding the impact of 70″ of snowfall in the last two weeks. Due to the “extraordinary situation,” Lynch has asked for support from the National Guard. The decision is driven by concerns for public safety.

DPW Notice: STATE OF PUBLIC SAFETY EMERGENCY NOTICE

Many roadways in Milton are compromised for fire apparatus access. Roadways need to be widened, crosswalks cleared, and corner snowbanks lowered.

As such the Board of Selectmen have issued a State of Public Safety Emergency for the Town of Milton.

The Singing Trooper to perform at MPL

Screen Shot 2015-02-12 at 7.40.42 AMDan Clark, the “Singing Trooper,” and his wife, opera singer Mary Colarusso, will perform a free concert of Irish songs in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the Milton Public Library on Saturday, March 7th at 2 PM. Mr. Clark has performed in uniform in many, many venues while representing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts during his 20-year career.

Due to the unprecedented 70 plus inch snow cover in Milton, The Board Of Selectmen has issued a local “Declaration of Emergency,” effective today (Thursday) at 4:00 pm.

Main Issue:
The Town has declared this local State of Emergency due to the past few snow storms combined with another expected blizzard (12-16”) this weekend.

Joyce Encouraging Residents to Attend Upcoming Amazon Hiring Fair

Senator Brian A. Joyce (D-Milton) encouraged residents to stop by Stoughton High School, 232 Pearl St. in Stoughton on Thursday, February 19th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a hiring fair Amazon is holding for their new fulfillment center in Stoughton. Amazon will be making job offers for seasonal employment on the spot for qualified applicants.

Conservation Commission votes on Hendries enforcement order

The Conservation Commission voted unanimously for an enforcement order that requests Carrick Realty to perform testing of the contents of underground tanks on the Hendries property. The Commission was scheduled to take up the issue of demolition permits for the building. Both the town and Carrick, each of whom own a portion of the structure asked for continuances. The continuances were granted but not without the commission voicing frustration with both parties for dragging this out.
