Final hearing on East Milton Parking presents range of options

Last night Howard Stein Hudson the firm retained by the town to assess the parking issues in East Milton Square and offer proposals for resolving them held a 3rd and final hearing for the public and presented a range of possible solutions. They ranged in terms of time frame, complexity, and price tag and they are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Milton’s Planning Director Bill Clark began the session with an emphatic statement that the town was not going to be acquiring anyone’s property; not by purchase, eminent domain, or any other means. This had been a concern voiced at an earlier session of the Business and Citizens Advisory Committee and Clark was looking to assure people that the issue had been put to rest.

High School interim principal will get $127,500

MPD encourages residents to lock doors to houses and cars, be vigilant

The following notices are from the Milton Police Department.

In the past two days we have had (2) residential breaks during the DAYTIME. although we have had recent success with arrests…there a various groups commiting these crimes. PLEASE lock your doors, set your alarms and PLEASE PAY ATTENTION to your neighborhood. Suspicious cars, persons, people walking into a yard, ALL are important indicators. If you see something suspicious, CALL 911.

MHS Ensembles Shine in Joint Performance

Last night over a hundred Milton High School students demonstrated once again how solid the music program is at Milton High. The band, string  ensemble, and chorus performed individually and together. It was their joint performance of O Fortuna from  Carmina Baruna at the end of the program earned a well deserved standing ovation.

Anita de Benedictis, 92, of Milton, realty broker

Anita J. (Paragallo) de Benedictis of Milton, a retired real estate broker, died Monday at her home.

She was 92.  Mrs. de Benedictis lived in Milton for 75 years. (Read the full story here.)

Historical Society receives donation of 19th Century portraits

The Milton Historical Society has received a donation of 2 mid-19th century portraits of Milton residents William Davis and his sister Mary Davis by artist Isaac Wetherby, a well known artist who resided in Milton at the time. Mr. Davis, who lived on Canton Avenue, was a prominent citizen active in the anti-slavery movement. In 1931 the portraits were willed by Mrs. Josephine Davis Emerson to her nieces with the stipulation that they ultimately would come to the Society. The donor, Jane Johnson of New York, the great great granddaughter of William Davis, recently delivered the portraits to the Society at the Suffolk Resolves House where they will hang.

MPS appoint Dr. Joseph Arangio interim principal of Milton High

release from Milton Public Schools

Dr. Arangio previously served as Principal of Milton High School from 1997 to 2002. His career highlights include high school principalships in West Hartford, Connecticut; McLean, Virginia and at Boston Technical High School. In addition, Dr. Arangio has served on the Massachusetts Board of Education, the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Mtg notes: Plan’g Brd 05.12.11 – PB close to approving 3 developments; but so far, no cigar

Last Thursday the Planning Board discussed three ongoing developments in Milton: 36 Central Ave, 310 Granite Ave, and 683-685 Brush Hill Road.

Paul Sullivan, who is representing Oranamore the developer of 36 Central Ave before the Planning Board, reviewed modifications that were being considered. In what is becoming a municipal version of From Here to Eternity Mr. Sullivan gave an update on changes.
