MBTA to suspend sevice on 8/28 due to Hurricane Irene

Following New York’s action, the MBTA in Boston is suspending services all day Sunday.

After a careful review of the most recent information from the National Weather Service, the MBTA has decided to suspend all modes of service for the entirety of Sunday, August 28th.

Irene’s projected track has shifted significantly westward since yesterday; it now shows the center of Irene passing over the Outer Banks on Saturday, making landfall on western Long Island Sunday evening, and passing through central and western Massachusetts Sunday night and Monday morning as a Category 1 or 2 storm, or possibly a weak Category 3. Irene is still several days out, however, and the projected track could potentially be off by as much as 200 miles and the projected timing by 6 to 8 hours.

Milton reading club reaches goal

On Wednesday children at the Milton Public Library achieved their goal of helping the less fortunate-by reading.

During the summer over 185 children took part in the library’s “One World, Many Stories” summer reading club, where members kept track of their reading minutes and reported it on the club’s website. (Read teh full story here.)

Magliozzi headed to University of Florida
