Baker takes Milton (barely), reflects tight race state wide

It was/is an incredibly close race; but Baker won it according to major news outlets (ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX) as reported on Boston.com. The Boston Globe is reporting Baker ahead but Coakley has yet to concede and Baker has agreed to wait for overnight tally (see story here.) The unofficial results here in Milton mirror how tight the race was sate wide. Baker won Milton by 109 votes. There were 11,711 votes cast in total.

Election results in – Cullinane wins Democratic nomination for Precinct 1 & 2

Dan Cullinane is on a path to retain his seat in the Massachusetts House. Mr. Cullinane represents Precinct 1 and 2 here in Milton where he won handily (Dorchester Reporter article here). There were no Republican primary candidates for the seat.

Martha Coakley topped the Democratic ticket but Grossman was Milton’s Democratic choice with 1635 votes to Coakley’s 1484. Baker easily defeated Fisher on the Republican ticket. (Boston Globe election coverage here.)

Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills begins next chapter

Among pines and oaks, under a clear blue sky, the Congregation of Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills, joined by a large group of friends, neighbors, and town and state officials, began to dig a foundation for their future here in Milton. The groundbreaking for their new temple was a joyous event for the congregation and the town after years of seeking a new home. They now have a home thanks to a generous donation of land from Marvin and Andrea Gordon.

While most of us were tucked comfortably in our beds during Saturday night’s cold rain, an intrepid group of volunteers was outside in Milton, flashlights in hand, getting soaked, frozen, but very happy. The volunteers in question included Win and Denise Swenson, Carol Hayes and Martha McDonough, along with Randy and Isabelle Scott, among others.  (Read the full story here.)

Interesting agenda for BoS mtg: Hendries, consolidation discussion, & more

There are two discussion items on this coming Tuesday’s meeting of the Milton Board of Selectmen that may be of especial interest. One relates to their position on the potential award regarding a bid on the town owned portion of the Hendries property and another on the potential merits of consolidating operations between the schools and town hall.
