Milton has a new art center!
Artspace Milton, which will be in the former East Milton Library, will begin hosting classes for all ages starting in early November.
At the last meeting of the School Committee, members of the NEASC steering committee, Brian Borde and Michelle Kreuzer gave an update on the status of NEASC preparations.
Committee member Keohane asked for an explanation of NEASC and if participation was required. NEASC is the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Last night Artspace Milton, a local non-profit startup, held a fundraiser at the First Parish Church and it was a loud, fun, full house.
Artspace Milton is an organization providing arts enrichment to the community. The foundation for the organization is FAVA which has a 7 year track record of delivering arts education in the elementary schools. The goal of Artspace Milton is to build on that foundation and expand the value of that program to people of all ages throughout the community.
In a small but warm gesture designed to recognize the huge contributions made by variety of organizations, the Milton Public School administration hosted a reception on 6/8 to thank them.
Marion McEttrick has served on the Milton Board of Selectmen for 12 years. Last night she chaired her final session and cast her final votes. Selectmen Shields noted that the 12 years represented a record for consecutive service and said, “Your contribution has been great.”
I am announcing my candidacy for Milton Library Trustee. The library is vital to the community and the cultural heart of the town. I am running for Milton Library Trustee to utilize my skills, experience, and passion to advance the mission of our library. If elected, I will contribute my energy, ideas, and support to the trustees and continue the work of offering our town a rich local repository of resources and information in all its forms, with free access for all.
At last night’s Selectmen’s meeting the board put the finishing touches on the RFP for the Governor Stoughton land. The board brought closure to one key outstanding issue, the length of the lease. The land may be purchased outright or leased. If leased, the selectmen agreed on an initial 20 year lease with an option to renew for another 10 years assuming the lessee is not in default and of good standing.
Many businesses and organizations had been in touch with Planning Director Clark about the East Milton Library space including a graphic design firm and a proposal to rent desk space to business people; but in the end only FAVA, the Friends and Advocates for Visual Arts, responded to an RFP issued by the Board of Selectmen.
This is the latest in a series of art works created by students of FAVA (The Friends and Advocates for the Visual Arts). This week’s work is a cartoon strip by Ella Zimmerman, a 2nd grader at the Glover Elementary School.
