I am announcing my candidacy for Milton Library Trustee. The library is vital to the community and the cultural heart of the town. I am running for Milton Library Trustee to utilize my skills, experience, and passion to advance the mission of our library. If elected, I will contribute my energy, ideas, and support to the trustees and continue the work of offering our town a rich local repository of resources and information in all its forms, with free access for all.
My fascination with technology’s ability to deliver information is paired with a lifelong passion for the power of words. Publishing 02186.MyTownMatters and producing its broadcast complement on Milton Access TV have provided me with an invaluable understanding of and love for the town and its citizens. Prior to that I managed numerous online publishing efforts for Ziff-Davis, CNet, and Reed Business Information. My experience and knowledge of media combined with an open-minded attitude and collaborative approach to addressing issues will be an asset in continuing the library’s work.
As a library trustee, I look forward to addressing challenges presented by digital technologies, exploring collaboration with other town organizations, enhancing customer service, and working with the other Trustees, Friends, and Foundation to develop programs and opportunities that serve all constituencies in our community. I will also propose “Milton Reads!” a town-wide program that invites the entire community, young and old, to read and share a book together.
I moved to Milton in 1988 with my wife Annie Davis. We have raised two children here, both proud graduates of the Milton Public Schools. I’m active in a number of local organizations including The Friends of Milton Crew, FAVA, and Brookwood Farm, have served as a judge for National History Day, a nationwide history competition for middle and high-school students, volunteer at the library’s Friends Bookstore, and I never met a community road race that I didn’t want to run.
I respectfully ask for 1 of your 3 votes on April 26th. I will work to sustain the tireless efforts of those that are stepping down and to ensure the progress of the Milton Public Library going forward.
