Beth Israel Deaconess-Milton receives top ranking from Consumer Reports

The Patriot Ledger has a story today on Beth Israel Deaconess-Milton receiving a top rank among hospitals in the state for surgery outcomes The article states, “It’s the first time that the non-profit consumer publication has ranked hospitals across the nation on the issue of how patients fare after surgery, focusing on infections, re-admissions, pain control and communication with doctors and nurses.” (Read the full story here.)

Reminder: Jeff Stoodt performs Cole Porter

On Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2 PM, Jeff Stoodt, music aficionado and host of cable TV’s “The Great American Songbook”, will present a program of songs by Cole Porter in a cabaret setting. The singer will also tell fascinating stories about each song and the great composer. The concert, called “Night and Day,” will be held at the Milton Public Library in the Keys Community Room (lower level).

This morning, I stood on the freshly cut front lawn of the Police Station and thought how lucky we were once again this year, to have such a beautiful day for our National Night Out Celebration. In the back of my mind however, I always worry a little, thinking, will the residents come? My answer was easy, I knew that the people of Milton would arrive at MPD to join with the men and women who protect them every day.

St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Milton is partnering with Episcopal City Tutoring (ECT) to offer individualized SAT prep to local students preparing for college entrance exams.

40B developments in the news

Two recent articles on 40B may be of interest to Milton residents. One item mentioned in the first article concerns Weymouth Senator Hedlund’s amendment to tighten environmental regulations on 40B. Environmental impacts have been identified by critics of proposed Milton Mews development here. The developers, Mill Creek, are also looking to build a 40B in Needham, the topic of the second article.

Concert on the Green at Fuller Village with Sergeant Dan Clark, the Singing Trooper

Sergeant Dan Clark, the Singing Trooper, will perform on Thursday, August 15th. As a former United States Marine and retired Massachusetts State Trooper he has lived the motto “God, Country, Corps!” From his extensive performance background as a young adult with All-State and All-Eastern Choirs, The Tanglewood Young Vocalist Program, and the College Light Opera Company Sgt Clark merged into ‘The Singing Trooper’ named by Gov. Michael Dukakis who introduced him to the great Boston Pops Orchestra.

Milton police log: July 29 to Aug. 4

The following information was taken from the Milton police log. Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.

Monday, July 29
Fraud: At 4:28 p.m., police received a report of identity theft of a Quisset Brook Road resident. Someone opened up a Comcast account in the resident’s name in San Francisco about a year ago and now there is a debt of about $1,000 on the account. Comcast tried to bill the resident for the money and she called the police. (Read the full story here.)

Town seeks volunteer for FAA community advisory group

The Town is seeking a volunteer to represent its interests on a community advisory group (CAC) which collaborates with MASSPORT and the FAA in making recommendations regarding airplane noise and potential health issues in the surrounding communities to Logan Airport. The appointment includes multiple meetings throughout the year at MASSPORT and having knowledge of aviation would be beneficial. If you have an interest in serving your town in this capacity, please contact the Selectmen’s Office at Town Hall.
