On Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2 PM, Jeff Stoodt, music aficionado and host of cable TV’s “The Great American Songbook”, will present a program of songs by Cole Porter in a cabaret setting. The singer will also tell fascinating stories about each song and the great composer. The concert, called “Night and Day,” will be held at the Milton Public Library in the Keys Community Room (lower level).
Accompanying Jeff will be pianist Jim Rice. A well-known musical arranger and director in theatrical circles, Rice is an excellent choice to play the library’s new piano in its public debut. Jim was musical director of the Stoneham Theater’s recent critically lauded revival of the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and has performed in hundreds of theaters across Europe and America. “Night and Day” will spotlight Porter’s well-known compositions such as “I Get a Kick Out of You” and Let’s Misbehave.” Cole Porter is in the top echelon of popular songwriters of the 20th century, and was active mainly in the 1930s through the mid-1950’s. His work is distinguished by its sophisticated language and frequent humorous and wry sentiments. Escape the heat and enter the musical world of one of America’s immortal songwriters! This program is sponsored by The Friends of the Milton Public Library, and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. The Library is located at 476 Canton Avenue, and for more information, contact Jean Hlady, Adult Services Librarian, at (617) 698-5757.”
