MHS Bulletin for 04.03.09

  • All members and friends of the Poetry Club are encouraged to attend today’s meeting. Jam performers must attend. The meeting starts at 2:30 promptly in room 211.
  • The Language Department wishes to thank the students and staff for their generosity to the children in Burkina Faso, Africa.  The donation to the school is $520!  Thank you all!
  • Attention!!  Monday, April 6th, will be this year’s first Red Sox Hat Day. Pay one dollar to wear your favorite hat all day. Stamps will be distributed before first period near the front office, the science and math wing, and near the field house.
  • Seniors:   Stop in guidance to pick up copies of the applications for the Boston Globe Scholar-Athlete Scholarship (due May 1) and the Milton National Little League Scholarship (due May 8).

  • Attention seniors – many of you have not completed the required hours of community service needed to graduate. Please visit the community service office after school today to update your hours. Bring any forms that are outstanding. Hours MUST be completed in order to graduate.

MHS Bulletin for 03.27.09

  • It’s that time of year again!  Sign-ups for the MHS Annual UNO Tournament are ongoing through March 31 in Mr. Burke’s room (119).  There will be no late sign-ups!!
  • All Poets in Poetry Jam 2009:  Mandatory reading workshop today in room 211 and don’t forget the mandatory rehearsal on Saturday from 12-3 in the auditorium.
  • Now through March 31, the Language Department will be collecting funds for our sister school in Burkina Faso, Africa.  These funds will enable students to attend school and also will give them at least a meal per day.  Collection will be taken in language classrooms and at lunch.  Checks may be made out to Milton High School.  Just a little thought from Mrs.
  • Girls who ordered Hurdle t-shirts must pay Chelsea by Friday or shirts cannot be ordered.

  • Congratulations to the following juniors for being selected by the faculty to represent Milton High School at Boys and Girls State being held this June:  Felicia Iyamu, Liana Gineitis, Alison McIntyre, Coleman Flanagan, Mike Hoy, and Tom Phelan. These students were selected based on their qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, scholarship, patriotism, and service. We are proud to have them represent MHS!!!
  • Today, Freshmen in Group 9A will meet for their third session of Group Guidance and Mr. McPartland’s Juniors in 11C will meet for Library Lab.
  • Any student interested in playing Ultimate Frisbee come to room 105 after school today.  Bring water and a light and dark shirt.  All are welcome.
  • Fashion Show practice today and Saturday.  Attendance is mandatory.
  • Ping Pong Club free play and tournament today. Sign up early! The two “new” tables are assembled and ready for play. The skill level continues to increase. Got game?

  • Today, Sophomores in Group 10C will meet at 9:22 for their third session of Group Guidance. Mrs. Cove’s Juniors in Group 11B will meet at the same time for Library Lab. On Thursday, Freshmen in Group 9A will meet for their third session of Group Guidance and Mr. McPartland’s Juniors in 11C will meet for Library Lab.
  • Careers in Teaching: Please see Mrs. Mullen in 131 if you are interested in becoming a teacher and would like to go on a field trip to Bridgewater State College on March 26.
  • There will be a Key Club meeting in room 243 after school today.
  • Greek Club meeting today at 2:30 in room 122. All members and officers must attend. Plans for Greek Independence Day (March 25) will be finalized.
  • Asian Culture Club meeting today to discuss Thursday’s movie night.
  • Fashion Show practice today, Thursday and Saturday. Attendance is mandatory.

  • Congratulations to Mr. LoPresti, for being named Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic Coach of the Year!
  • We also congratulate Coach LoPresti for being chosen as March’s Good Goin’ Winner. Not only is he an AWESOME coach for shepherding our Boys Basketball team to victory, but he also supports our students in other sports, in music, and in drama. He’s an all-around great guy, so Good Goin, Mr. LoPresti!

MHS Highlights for 03.13.09

  • Milton High School’s two LifeSmarts teams took 3rd and 4th place while competing in Wednesday’s state tournament in Boston. Congratulations to Captain Ben Richman and teammates Jay Rosenberg, Christine Hui, Linda Nguyen and O’Neil Val-Pierre who finished third, and Captain Rashawn Pouchie with Ciaran Conners, Shane Grey, Tucker Kibbee and Mike Rodensky who finished fourth.
  • Attention ALL juniors and seniors!  Anyone interested in participating in Mr. Milton, please sign up in Mrs. Damiani’s room.
  • Spring Sports begin March 16 – Last day for signups – Monday from 2:30-4:30 pm in the athletic office. Students should have updated physicals, user fee check of $200 and a permission slip if they have not gone out for another sport.
  • The Key Club will be selling green carnations for St. Patrick’s Day delivery at all 3 lunches today. Send your friends a little “luck ‘o the Irish” on March 17.
  • GSA meeting after school today in room 310. Exciting opportunities abound. New members are welcome.
  • Drama meeting immediately after school today.  Auditions will be on Monday in room 224.

  • All LifeSmarts students competing in next week’s state tournament are to report to the cafe today during grade homeroom.
  • Students enrolled in SAT Prep Classes – remember to pick up your SAT Study Guide from guidance before your first classes start today at 2:30.
  • The Echo is now accepting submissions for its second issue!  Get community service and possibly extra credit.  Just put your poems, stories, or artwork in the Echo folders in the English and Art rooms.
  • The first issue of the Echo is still on sale.  Come by Mr. Radosta’s room to pick up a copy.
  • Girls Outdoor Track  – Meeting Thursday at 2:30 pm in room 128.
  • Indoor Girls Track – Vote for Captains and Uniform Turn in Thursday.
  • Ping Pong Club – free play and tournament on THURSDAY this week, not Friday. Sign up early! The two “new” tables are here, and at least one should be ready for play. Can anyone beat Ming the King?
  • Anyone interested in playing Ultimate Frisbee, come to a meeting Thursday after school in room 105.  Ultimate is a fun, spirited, co-ed sport.  All abilities encouraged to join.  See Ms. Derby with questions.
