MHS Bulletin for 03.19.09

  • Congratulations to the following juniors for being selected by the faculty to represent Milton High School at Boys and Girls State being held this June:  Felicia Iyamu, Liana Gineitis, Alison McIntyre, Coleman Flanagan, Mike Hoy, and Tom Phelan. These students were selected based on their qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, scholarship, patriotism, and service. We are proud to have them represent MHS!!!
  • Today, Freshmen in Group 9A will meet for their third session of Group Guidance and Mr. McPartland’s Juniors in 11C will meet for Library Lab.
  • Any student interested in playing Ultimate Frisbee come to room 105 after school today.  Bring water and a light and dark shirt.  All are welcome.
  • Fashion Show practice today and Saturday.  Attendance is mandatory.
  • Ping Pong Club free play and tournament today. Sign up early! The two “new” tables are assembled and ready for play. The skill level continues to increase. Got game?
  • All girls who signed up for Hurdle t-shirts, your $12 is due to Chelsea by Friday or they cannot be ordered.  Ten signed up.
  • The Poetry Club will be meeting after school today in Mr. Collyer’s room.  All those participating in the Jam must attend.  See Mr. Collyer or the directors if you cannot attend.
  • Sewing Club meeting today until 3:30.
  • Drama Club tech meeting today at 2:30 in room 224.
  • Seniors:  Please turn in your applications for the MHS local scholarships today.
  • It’s that time of year again!  Sign up for the MHS Annual UNO Tournament starting today and running through March 31.  There will be no late sign-ups!!  Play starts April 1st.  Come see how good you really are.  Maybe you can beat Mr. Burke or Mr. Costa?  Students and faculty alike are invited to try to win this year’s trophy, as well as bragging rights for a whole year!!  Sign up in Mr. Burke’s room (119) anytime before April 1.
  • Every senior must see Mrs. Huban in the main office to confirm the correct spelling of their full name for their Diploma.
  • The new Book Club discussion book will be Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier.  We will meet on March 30.   Everyone is welcome.
  • The School-to-Careers Partnership is offering summer camp opportunities for sophomores and juniors who are interested in engineering, and who would like to travel to Colorado and California. For additional information contact Mr. Arenburg in room 307.  An informational flyer is available in guidance.
  • Attention Seniors, Mass Bay Community College is offering its President’s Top Ten Scholarship.  Students who graduate at the top 10% of their high school class or graduating
  • with a 3.0 GPA or higher may attend two academic years at Mass Bay virtually cost free. Students who meet this guideline should see their Guidance Counselor for a scholarship application and more details. The application deadline is April 30, 2009.
  • Now through March 31, the Language Department will be collecting funds for our sister school in Burkina Faso, Africa.  These funds will enable students to attend school and also will give them at least a meal per day.  Collection will be taken in language classrooms and at lunch.  Checks may be made out to Milton High School.  Just a little thought from Mrs. Burke: If every student and teacher were to give $2 we could send over $2,000 to the school.
  • Community Service:  Collicot PTO needs students to provide childcare on Friday, March 27th from 6 – 9 pm at Cunningham Hall.  Many volunteers are needed as they expect 55 children that evening.  Please contact Ms. Aldrich at aldrich27@verizon.net.  The Milton Hospital Health Fair will be on May 30th from 8 am to 4 pm (Rain date May 31st). Approximately 25 to 30 friendly and outgoing volunteers  are needed.  Please contact     Robin at 617-921-3448 or sign up in community service.  Keeping Pace needs students to work with families of multiples in town.  It would involve playing with toddlers and light housework.  An adult would always be present.  Please contact Ms. Baker at 508 842-6648.  The Milton Public Library needs approximately 150 volunteers for the opening weekend – April 4 and 5.   • The Milton High School Key Club and Sewing Club are sponsoring a prom dress sale on March 25.  In anticipation of this event, the clubs are asking for donations of gently used prom dresses. Dresses will also be accepted on consignment. Donations may be dropped off in Room 243 by March 24. See Mrs. Donnelly, Mrs. Cove or Mrs. Lovett with questions.
