Beth Shalom film series continues with “A Midwife’s Tale”
A Midwife’s Tale will be the second film in this season’s Winter Movie Series of Cong. Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills, co-sponsored by Milton’s First Congregational Church. The film, part of the series theme: “Strong and Funny Women,” will be screened on Saturday evening, January 25th at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:45) in Huntington Hall of the First Congregational Church, 495 Canton Avenue, Milton, with entry at the rear door. The film series is open to the public.

Trial attorney Russ Pollock will be the guest speaker at the next Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills Brunch Speaker Series on Sunday, Dec. 15th, at the Pierce Middle School in Milton. His topic will be “Voir Dire and Trial: The Anatomy of Jury Selection and the Trial Process.” The brunch and talk are open to the public.
Traffic Commission listens to Lodge Street concerns; Temple plans

The Traffic Commission met yesterday morning, and two of their agenda items concerned Lodge Street. The first was a continuation of a discussion regarding increased traffic and the resident concerns that raised. The second was an explanation by Marvin Gordon of his decision to gift property to Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills for construction of a synagogue with access of Lodge Street. He specifically addressed the reasons for putting access to the proposed temple off Lodge Street rather than Gun Hill Street.

Two weeks ago during Citizen Speak James O’Donahue said, regarding a proposal to build a temple with access off Lodge Street:
If they jam it down our throats, we are going to hate these people for a long, long time.
At last night’s session of the Board of Selectmen, he apologized to the board and the the members of the Jewish community for that remark.
Mtg notes: BoS 10.03.13 (a) – Gift of land to Temple meets swift opposition

There is no P&S, no site plan, nor any architectural renderings yet, but there was swift neighborhood opposition to a proposed gift of ~1 acre of land by Marvin and Andrea Gordon that could serve as the site of a new synagogue for Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills. At the October 3rd meeting of the Board of Selectmen, the Cronin room was crowded by residents of Lodge Street who came to express their disapproval of the proposal.

We welcome Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills, formed from the merger of two long-established congregations. Temple Shalom of Milton and Temple Beth El of Quincy recently announced their merger, and with that complete, the memberships held a vote last week to decide on the new name.
The Temple Celebrates
Last Sunday evening Temple Shalom hosted a celebration perhaps tinged with a few tears. It was likely the last event to be held in the building that has been the Temple’s home for the last 65 years.
