“Shiur Acher (A Different Lesson): Every Child has the Right to Dream” will be the topic of guest speaker Lavi Ovnat at the next Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills Brunch Speaker Series on Sunday, Feb. 2nd, at the Pierce Middle School in Milton. The brunch and talk are open to the public.
Mr. Ovnat is doing double duty for the State of Israel. He is a Branch Chief at the Israeli Securities Authority (ISA) with responsibility for dealing with complex securities fraud and other legal offense cases. He is currently a Wexner Fellow at Harvard, working to strengthen Israel’s public leadership.
At the same time, Mr. Ovnat manages the ISA’s “Different Lesson” project, a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Israel that expands opportunities for disadvantaged children by providing volunteer resources. He will speak about an elementary school adopted 7 years ago in the Tikva neighborhood of south Tel Aviv, where lessons in law, economics and technology are provided on a weekly basis.
Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills, formerly Temple Shalom of Milton and Temple Beth El of Quincy, invites the public to its Brunch Speaker Series, which begins at 10:15 AM, with the speaker starting at approximately 11 AM. A $5 donation for the brunch is requested to defray food costs, and a call or email to the congregation office is required for planning. The speaker portion can be attended for free.
Beth Shalom’s brunches are currently held at the Pierce Middle School cafeteria, 451 Central Avenue (entrance on Brook Road), Milton. For more information, please call 617-698-3394 or email: office@TempleShalomOnline.org.
