Welcome Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills

We welcome Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills, formed from the merger of two long-established congregations. Temple Shalom of Milton and Temple Beth El of Quincy recently announced their merger, and with that complete, the memberships held a vote last week to decide on the new name. Twenty-nine suggestions were submitted, and after an initial vote where over 100 ballots were cast, five names made it to the second round.

Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills is the new name of the spiritual home that will serve the Jewish communities of Milton, Quincy, Dorchester, Hyde Park and surrounding areas.

Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills will continue its role as an independent, egalitarian congregation, welcoming all who seek a meaningful, supportive spiritual home. Alfred Benjamin will retain his role as Rabbi of the congregation as will Nancy Mollitor in her capacity as Director of Education. In addition, Karen Friedman-Hanna and Ronit Voigt, co-presidents of Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills, reaffirm the congregation’s commitment to find a new, permanent home in Milton. Until then, Shabbat and Holiday services will continue to be held at the First Congregational Church, 495 Canton Ave. in Milton.

A new website is under construction. Those interested in learning more about the congregation, education programs or services for the upcoming High Holidays are invited to go to the old website www.TempleShalomOnLine.org or call the synagogue office at 617-698-3394 for more information.

Please join My Town Matters in welcoming this new house of peace.
