Poll: How to develop the property at St Elizabeth’s

St. Elizabeth’s Parish is divesting the property it owns at the corner of Reedsdale and Randolph Ave. It is significant in many ways: its size and prominence, its historical character, and it’s location are three. The granite foundation came from local quarries, it is prominent in that it provides significant green space at one of the busiest intersections in town. It’s location is also significant because it sits directly across from  commercial businesses.

Artspace Milton to kick off Pre-K art class!

Artspace Milton will kick of its fall term of classes with Story Time Art for Pre-K children ages 3 1/2 and older. Enrollment is open and classes begin  11/2.

The class will be using favorite children’s stories as inspiration for creating beautiful works of art. The class, which is drop off, runs from 12:30 – 2:00 on Wednesdays and costs $75. To register or for more information please email karenhainline@comcast.net.

Turbine plan creates turmoil between Quincy, Milton

A proposed 480-foot wind turbine near the Granite Links Golf Club has Milton and Quincy officials on opposite sides of the fence.

The controversial plan has spawned proposed legislation and a pending lawsuit from the owners of the 27-hole golf course in an attempt to stop the project. (Read the full story here.)

Milton police investigating report of shooting in town

A Randolph man who told police that he was shot in the leg Monday near a Milton bus stop remains in the hospital.

Milton Deputy Police Chief Charles Paris said Thursday that detectives continue to investigate the case in which a 21-year-old man with a bullet wound in his leg showed up in the emergency room at Milton Hospital. (Read the full story here.)

MPD seek public’s assistance on commercial B&Es

Beginning October 20, 2011 through October 27th, there have been three commercial break and entries during the early morning hours of 0100-0200 hours. Milton Gas Station at 352 Granite Avenue, has been broken into twice and, Tedeschi’s on Route 28 was broken into on the 27th.

Pierce Middle School Honors “280” Students

A group of 53 students from Pierce Middle School assembled in the school library last week for a special luncheon in their honor. The students were being recognized for having achieved a “280” — or perfect score on one of their MCAS exams.

Gov Stoughton Trustees and Pulte Homes sign P&S to develop Town Farm

Last night the Board of Selectmen acting in their capacity as trustees signed a $5 million purchase and sale agreement with Pulte Homes to develop 30 of the 34 acre tract of land known locally as the Town Farm. The land was left to the town by Governor Stoughton in 1701 to benefit the poor of Milton. He tasked the Selectmen with serving as trustees to ensure the intent of his will was carried out.

Prince of Thieves author speaks at Fontbonne

Chuck Hogan, renowned author of the book Prince of Thieves, which was made into the movie The Town, was at Fontbonne Academy last Monday. He addressed the senior class who had recently read Prince of Thieves. Mr. Hogan’s English teacher from Canton High School, Mr. Jim Carta, who now teaches at Fontbonne, arranged the talk. Coincidentally the author’s mother is an alumna of Fontbonne Academy, from the Class of 1961.
