Obit: John J. Shaughnessy Sr. businessman, benefactor

John J. “Jack” Shaughnessy Sr. of Milton, a retired construction business owner and benefactor, died Wednesday in Hingham after a brief illness. He was 86.

Born in Boston, Mr. Shaughnessy was raised in the Merrymount section of Quincy and lived in Braintree before moving to Milton, where he resided for many years. (Read the full story here.)

Mystery author Halle Ephron, spiritual columnist Suzette Standring, and cooking maven Connie Spiros were among those recommending books in a variety of genres.

Four players score in 27-13 Milton win over Braintree

With Thursday’s 27-13 win, Milton has made it back-to-back victories in its Thanksgiving rivalry with Braintree.

Talk: “Inside the Trial Process” at Beth Shalom

Trial attorney Russ Pollock will be the guest speaker at the next Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills Brunch Speaker Series on Sunday, Dec. 15th, at the Pierce Middle School in Milton. His topic will be “Voir Dire and Trial: The Anatomy of Jury Selection and the Trial Process.” The brunch and talk are open to the public.

Fontbonne Academy Inducts Newest National Honor Society Members

Fontbonne Academy inducted 17 young women into its National Honor Society on November 22, as part of a celebration of the founding sister of the school, Mother St. John Fontbonne. The young women were given stoles with the NHS emblem on them and were treated, along with their families, to a reception following the service.

Meeting: Board of Selectmen

The Board of Selectmen will be meeting Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:30pm in the Cronin Conference Room at Town Hall. The agenda will include a hearing on “Classification of Property according to use” and a series of approvals. You can find the agenda for this and all town meetings here.

Meeting: Planning Board

The Planning Board will be meeting in the Cronin Conference Room at Town Hall on Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:30pm. (Note – the location conflicts with the BoS meeting. This meeting will likely be in the Blute Conference Room.) The agenda includes but is not limited to a hearing on a site plan approval for Blue Hills Bank at 480 Adams Street and updates on Master Plan and Housing Production Plan.
