by Frank Schroth

At a public meeting on the development of a Housing Production Plan, Milton’s situation with regard to affordable housing and its ongoing vulnerability to 40B housing developments was starkly drawn. Why a Master Plan?

Commentary by John Cronin

Why is the Town working on a new Master Plan?

There are four big reasons:

  1. Hall of Famer Yogi Berra advised: “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up somewhere else.”
  2. Milton wishes to identify new net property tax revenue sources, to sustain its quality life style.
  3. The Master Plan is required by law.

Notice from Town Hall

Milton’s history of volunteerism has always been impressive. Over the years, Milton residents have donated their personal time to all kinds of worthwhile projects helping to make our town an appealing place in which to live and raise a family.

Nowhere is volunteerism more important to our town than in government.

Warren and the CPA

Commentary by Frank Schroth

The election results provided a reminder that this is still Massachusetts. Had Capuano beaten Coakley, Brown may never have happened. Senator Brown, a good, strong, moderate Republican was a deviation in the natural political course of events. The course has corrected itself. As the headline in today’s Globe stated. “Hard Mass. race ends in victory for liberalism.” And so the liberal Kennedy legacy endures. Massachusetts likes its Republicans as Governors not Senators. Massachusetts may see more of Scott Brown . . . in a different seat. But enough of that. Let’s look at the CPA.

THE CPA: Pro and Con

by Frank Schroth

Next week’s election will feature a number of ballot questions. One that is likely to be as tightly contested as the Senate race is one asking voters if Milton should join the Community Preservation Act. We sat down early yesterday evening with Bill Benett and Kevin Sorgi of Preservation without Taxation, a group opposed to the CPA and also with Tom Hurley and Katie Conlon of Preserve Milton, an organization in favor of joining. The program will air on MATV tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday night at 7:30pm. And again on Monday at 6:30pm.
