Registration Open for Chess Tournament at the Library

On Saturday, March 8th, 2014 International Master David Vigorito will serve as tournament director for the 3rd annual “Chess-a-Palooza!” – a fun and friendly scholastic chess tournament open to all Milton school students. Players of all abilities are welcome.

Meeting: Milton Planning Board

The Milton Planning Board will be meeting on Thursday, February 13 at 6:30PM in the Blute Conference Room at Town Hall. The primary agenda items are a series of hearings on articles to appear before town meeting. They include: the reformatting of zoning bylaws, cluster development, medical marijuana, agricultural/nursery/landscaping development (i.e. Thayer), amending penalties for violation of zoning, attached condominium residence development (i.e. O’Neill property seeking access from Randolph Ave). Residents of Fuller Village participated in National Go Red for Women Day to raise awareness in the fight against heart disease in women, the #1 cause of death in women. Residents got their hearts pumping in a cardio class led by Fuller Village Fitness Director, Kara Bligh. Click on the image for a larger view.

Meeting: Board of Selectmen

The Board of Selectmen will be meeting in the John Cronin Conference Room at Town Hall on Tuesday, February 11 at 6:30PM. The agenda includes but is not limited to: a discussion with Robin Tagliaferri of the Forbes House Museum. a discussion of Town Meeting articles, Sleepy’s signage request, and a proposed 40B off of Randolph Avenue. Police seek assistance with Eliot Street Larceny

OVERVIEW: On 02/06/2014 at 17:08 the above male suspect entered the enclosed porch area. He rummaged through several plastic storage containers and cardboard boxes. The suspect then noticed a blue/black mountain bicycle and left the porch with the bicycle at 17:14. He was seen fleeing on Eliot Street towards Blue Hills Parkway.

Letter from Tucker Principal Dr. Elaine McNeil-Girmai on Stay in Place order

February 7, 2014

Dear Families,

I am writing to inform you that this morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. a stay in place order was put in place at Tucker School. This order was prompted by a written threat found on a wall. The Milton Police Department came to Tucker School to investigate alongside school personnel. The stay in place order was lifted at approximately 11:10 a.m. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Sheryl Fleitman and Ed Duffy pull papers for Library Trustee

There are potentially two more candidates for Library Trustee: Sheryl Fleitman and Ed Duffy. Mr. Duffy currently serves on the Planning Board. According to Sue Galvin, Town Clerk, a resident can hold two elected offices simultaneously. Mr. Duffy’s current term is through 2015. Ms. Fleitman is involved with the Milton Citizens Against Aviation Impact. 

Update on Tucker situation

Good afternoon. First, please do not believe everything you read in the press.
There is an investigation taking place at Tucker School. Some information was discovered this morning specific to a general threat found in one area of the building. We have discovered that this information existed before today.

Hackneyed process paints bleak budget picture that calls for change

The Warrant Committee did again this year what they had done last year and the year before that and the year before that . . . they requested a level dollar budget from town departments. A level dollar budget paves a one-way street for a department head and that one way is backwards.

Election Watch 2014

Here is the current status of candidate running for town wide office as of this afternoon 2/8/14 based on information from the Town Clerk’s office. It has been reported that Mr. Manning will not seek re-election to the Assessors and that Ms. Mary Riffe Hiss is not going to run for re-election to the Library Board of Trustees, however, the town clerk has not yet been formally notified of their intent. We appreciate the support of the Susan Galvin, Town Clerk in making this available.
