Update: House Fire on Capen Street; smoke at Milton Hospital

The house fire reported late yesterday was at 82 Capen Street. The Fire Department was on the scene quickly. There were no injuries and the fire was restricted to the basement. The trolley line sevice was temporarily suspended. Service returned to normal later in the evening.

Soon to retire Reverend Johnson receives thanks from Fuller Village

Reverend Jeff Johnson, soon to retire minister of First Congregational Church, was thanked by Deborah Felton, Executive Director of Fuller Village on Wednesday, June 4th.  She thanked Rev. Johnson, on behalf of the Board, residents and staff, for his willingness to share his time and knowledge with Fuller Village residents throughout the years. 

Milton man accused of stabbing two in Theatre District

A Milton man was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court Monday on charges of stabbing two people in the Theatre District, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office said. Njisane Chambers, 26, faces two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. (Read the full story here.)

Congrats Milton Road Race Runners!

Screen Shot 2014-06-11 at 7.15.34 AMThe 36th annual Milton Road Race went off on time with the weather being what it was which was better than last year. The showers had pretty much ended when the 712 runners left the starting line. Colette O’Leary of Milton finished first of 204 runners in the 10K for the women with a time of 42:57 and ended and Michael Macedo of North Scituate finished first for the men with a time of 5:42 just edging out Milton’s Jason Cakouros by a ~10th of a second.

Tires slashed during picketing at Steel & Rye

There was a large film crew at Steel & Rye today filming a television program. During the course of the taping union picketers arrived and hassled members of the crew, pedestrians and a police officer who had been hired as safety detail. One passer by said the picketers were “aggressive”. Deputy Chief King stated that just under a dozen cars had their tires slashed at some point.

Top Chef is in Boston – were they at Steel & Rye?

Yesterday we stopped by to chat with some of the TV crew who were on location at Steel & Rye and they were not very chatty. One said they were there for a commercial, another said it was a TV program and that was all they had to say. But in today’s Globe there is an article on the reality show “Top Chef” which is in Boston. In fact, Chef Parsons of Milton’s Steel & Rye is mentioned in the article.
