Local voters support ballot question on U.S. budget deal

About 30,000 South Shore voters registered their opinion at the polls last week on the so-called “fiscal cliff” that some predict could plunge the nation back into recession.

Voters in Cohasset, Hull and parts of Milton, Hingham and Scituate were asked Nov. 6 about a non-binding resolution backing a national budget deal (Read the full story here.)

Milton Public Library to Host Holiday Jazz Concert

The Milton Public Library will host jazz vocalist Peter Smith and his band on Saturday, December 1st at 2 PM for a holiday concert. The Peter Smith Trio, featuring Yas Ishibashi on keyboards and Ralph Pepe on acoustic bass, present a wonderful program of songs from the Great American Songbook. Front-man Smith is equally adept at the swinging standards as he is delivering a soft ballad.

Movie @ the MPL: “Liberty Heights”

On Thursday, December 6th at 6:15 PM, the Milton Public Library will show “Liberty Heights,”  the last film in our “Segregated Worlds” series, to support Milton Reads‘ program related to the book To Kill A Mockingbird.  Milton middle school teacher Jeff Stoodt will moderate and give a trivia quiz related to the movie at 6:15, and the screening will be at 6:30 sharp in the Keys Community Room of the library (lower level).

Dog Sled Fun Run

Meet a furry sled dog up close and personal! The Yankee Siberian Husky Club and the Boston Snow Dogs will host an educational presentation on dog sledding in New England. See these canine athletes in training before the busy winter season. Demonstrations with wheeled rigs, if weather permits.

Kerry’s senate seat and Milton

No sooner does it end and we all breathe a sigh of relief that it’s over – then it begins again. Massachusetts Senator John Kerry may be appointed the next Secretary of Defense. Independent of whether that is a good choice or not, it could happen. And if it does there will be competition for his seat. Three potential candidates have ties to Milton.
