On Thursday, December 6th at 6:15 PM, the Milton Public Library will show “Liberty Heights,” the last film in our “Segregated Worlds” series, to support Milton Reads‘ program related to the book To Kill A Mockingbird. Milton middle school teacher Jeff Stoodt will moderate and give a trivia quiz related to the movie at 6:15, and the screening will be at 6:30 sharp in the Keys Community Room of the library (lower level). This overlooked 1999 gem by Barry Levinson (Diner, Tin Men) examines the cultural currents flowing in Baltimore in 1954. It’s the age of the atomic bomb, rock ‘n’ roll and the civil rights movement, and the two brothers aren’t impervious to the tumult. Being raised in a Jewish neighborhood, the boys shellshock their parents: one falls in love with a blue-eyed Protestant, the other with a black girl. Featuring a stellar cast (Joe Mategna, Bebe Neuwirth, Adrien Brody), the movie also has a memorable soundtrack, with several tracks contributed by Tom Waits. It is rated R for language and some thematic material. This program is sponsored by The Friends of the Milton Public Library, free popcorn will be served, and it is free and open to the public.
