by Maya Phillips, St, Mary of the Hills
In my opinion, being the president of the St. Mary of the Hills’ Student Council is more than just having a title. It means that I have the responsibility of being a leader and a good example for the entire student body. It also means that I am in a position to help improve our community in as many ways as possible.
I am excited to have been appointed to this position by my peers and fellow classmates. Knowing that they trusted me to represent them encourages me to do my very best. My main goal this year is not only to advocate for more social gatherings such as field trips and dances, but also to strengthen the St. Mary’s community as a whole. Having attended St. Mary’s for ten years, it has finally hit me that high school is right around the corner. This makes me realize that many of my friends and class mates – who are more like siblings – will soon attend various high schools, and we may not see or hear from one another for long periods of time. As we 8th graders prepare to graduate from St. Mary’s, I believe it’s important for us to cherish our past years here as well as continue to make memorable moments. Also, as student council president, I’m aware of the example I am expected to set for the younger kids. I believe this year would be a great year to begin mentorship programs, and build relationships with the future generation. Being elected president has given me the chance to speak out, represent my peers, and support St. Mary’s in its journey of growth. I am excited about the great things we will accomplish this year at St. Mary of the Hills School.
