Update – Notice from MPD re: Road rage incident

News release from the Milton Police Department

On Thursday evening, January 12th at approximately 9:00 p.m., Milton Police received several 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area of Union Avenue/Oak Street/Blue Hill Avenue. While some media outlets have stated that this incident was a result of a road rage incident, there is no evidence of that and the exact motivation for this shooting remains under investigation. A synopsis of what transpired follows.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m., a nineteen year old Milton resident was driving home. This victim has no criminal past and no connection to law enforcement or the suspects that is known at this time. He continued towards his home in Milton without incident. As he neared his neighborhood, a silver vehicle suddenly pulled up behind him and the occupants began firing at him.

The victim reversed direction in an attempt to elude the suspects. He was chased until he realized he had driven onto a dead end. The suspects attempted to corner him and again began firing, striking two houses, and both cars crashed into each other. The victim continued to flee getting his vehicle past the suspects’ vehicle. The victim then abandoned the car and fled into a back yard and hid, contacting his family by cell phone. The vehicle rolled away and came to rest against a house.

First witness accounts described the situation as well as a grey sedan containing the suspects, which was now heavily damaged, fleeing the scene. Multiple police units responded to this area. Within minutes, a Milton Detective located a heavily damaged silver sedan in the vicinity. Two male subjects now identified as Roy U. Jaundoo of 524 Hyde Park Avenue, Roslindale, age 35, and Kevin A. Taylor, Jr., of 85 Capen Street, Dorchester, age 22, were detained as they fled from the grey Chevy sedan. They have been charged with Assault to Murder While Armed. They were arraigned at Quincy Court today and are being held without bail at the Dedham House of Correction. A dangerousness hearing will be held on Wednesday at Quincy District Court. Both men have significant criminal histories.

At the same time a short distance from where the car had been dumped, another Milton Detective observed two additional males walking away. When joined by a marked Police Unit, the suspects immediately fled on foot. These suspects fled into back yards. A significant perimeter and subsequent search for these men took place over the next several hours. In the immediate search, officers located a loaded revolver and clothing behind one home.

Shortly thereafter a Milton Patrol Officer located a third male hiding under a deck a very short distance from where they were last seen. He has been identified as Caiheem C. Kindell of 6 Robert Arey Drive, Randolph, age 21. He is charged with Unlawfully Carrying A Firearm and is being held without bail at the Dedham House of Correction. He also has a long criminal record.

This morning a comprehensive evidentiary search of the yards in the area located two additional hand guns. This case remains under investigation.
