Milton man shot at in local road incident, suspects apprehended

by Frank Schroth

Last night at 9:00 P.M. several 911 calls reported the sound of gun shots in the vicinity of Oak Street and Route 138. The shots fired apparently stemmed from a road rage incident on Brush Hill Road. No one was injured. By 2:00 A.M. three suspects were in custody. They will be arraigned this morning at Quincy District Court: two on murder charges and one for unlawful possession of a handgun.

The incident began when a 19-year-old Milton man returning from work was attacked. Police report  “he was cut off by a car and he put his hand out the window at them.” He did not realize he was being followed until shots were fired at his car. He was pursued down Brush Hill Road and was cornered when he turned down Union Park a dead-end street. Forced to stop, he was then rammed by the individuals in the other car who fired as many as six shots at him. The victim managed to maneuver his car out onto Blue Hill Ave. where he rolled up onto a resident’s lawn and stalled. He fled on foot, called his mother who picked him up, and when he was secure and away from the scene, they called the police.

The police had received numerous calls. According to police, witnesses described a silver car with multiple suspects inside trying to shoot the occupant of the car that had been abandoned. They  stated the suspects were in a silver sedan with heavy body damage when it fled the scene.

Multiple units were dispatched within minutes of the 911 calls. Detective Louis Bullard found a silver sedan on Dyer Ave. near Houston Ave with heavy body damage and observed two black males late 20’s to 30 walking away. They “were hurried and agitated one on the cell phone obviously trying to get his bearing.” Detective Bullard stopped the occupants both of whom have significant criminal records. The hood of the extensively damaged car on Dyer Ave. contained spent shell casings.

At approximately the same time near Darby Rd., Detectives Pamela DiGiovanni and Genesee Seaton observed two other males on foot who ran when approached.

It was at 2 A.M. this morning that Officer Russell Withrow and Officer Maria Poles, while still in the neighborhood, located one of these suspects hiding under a deck at a home on Darby Rd. where he had been hiding for hours. He has a long criminal history and will be charged with unlawful possession of a handgun. All are being held at Milton Police Department.

Police report that two of the suspects are from Boston and one suspect is from Randolph. Chief Wells states that “These are career criminals with no ties to Milton who targeted this young man and tried to take his life.” The police launched a “massive search” to apprehend these suspects and  recover the weapons used. The MPD were aided by Quincy, Randolph and the State Police. The police will continue to search neighborhood yards today (1/13) when the sun comes up to attempt to find the remaining weapon.

One suspect remains at large.
