School technology lags MA Tech Ed recommendations

A presentation on MPS web site by Bob Pattison, IT director for the Milton Public Schools, outlines several areas in which the schools are behind in allocation of techology resources relative to Massachusetts Tech Ed recommendations.

For example, MA Tech Ed recommends 1 FTE tech staff for every 80 teachers. Milton has .02 for every 300. The recommended replacement policy for computers is 4.9 years. Milton’s is 6-7 years.

One area where Milton exceeds the recommendations is in implementation of “Smartboards” (interactive whiteboads). The recommendatioin is 1 for every 8 classrooms. Milton has 1 for every 2 classrooms.
